Job Description:
The Asst/Assoc/Prof and Director of Clinical Reasoning Education will oversee administration and integration of the evidence-based veterinary medicine (EBVM) educational courses (years 1-3) in the DVM program, working closely with the Offices of Educational Strategy and Student Success. The Director of Clinical Reasoning Education will instruct in Clinical Reasoning and evidence-based veterinary medicine and ensure alignment of instructional methods and assessments with DVM outcomes in Clinical Reasoning and evidence-based veterinary medicine. The Director will also provide clinical support for a specialty service that aligns with their specialization.
30% Instruct in Clinical Reasoning (large and small group)
30% Provide clinical practice support in a clinical service and instruction of Clinical veterinary students and house officers
25% Oversee administration of the veterinary evidence-based veterinary medicine (EBVM) curriculum in the DVM program
10% Train other faculty in instruction and evaluation of Clinical Reasoning
5% Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant Professor: DVM or equivalent
Specific experience: Teaching Clinical Reasoning and/or evidence-based veterinary medicine in pre-clinical and clinical DVM curriculum.
Associate Professor: DVM or equivalent with a minimum 5 years of experience
Specific experience: Teaching Clinical Reasoning and/or evidence-based veterinary medicine in pre-clinical and clinical DVM curriculum.
Professor: DVM or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years of experience
Specific experience: Teaching Clinical Reasoning and/or evidence-based veterinary medicine in pre-clinical and clinical DVM curriculum.

Minimum Certifications/ Licenses:
Must be eligible to sit for board exam in a veterinary clinical specialty.
Preferred Qualifications:
DVM with more than 7 years of experience
Specific experience: Teaching experience in medical education (human or Veterinary)
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Physical Requirements-Required to be cable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
Vehicle Operation - University employees whose principal responsibilities of employment include operating a vehicle, performing maintenance on a vehicle, or supervising any public employee who operates or maintains a vehicle and positions with an expectation to travel will require an MVR and are subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
Safety and Security Sensitive Job - Safety and security-sensitive positions are defined as those positions where any form of substance abuse may affect University activities through unsafe work behavior/performance or error in judgment; or where substance abuse could jeopardize the safety and well-being of employees, other personnel, or the general public, or cause significant damage to University property. This includes positions requiring firearms, access to controlled substances, handling hazardous material, operating heavy equipment or machinery, etc. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
