Job description

Incumbents must possess the ability to think clearly and quickly and analyze and solve problems of organization and management. They must work independently in identifying the need for and developing proposed changes to operating practices, programs, and policies and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. As the facility Public Information Officer, must speak and write effectively and demonstrate a capacity for assuming increasing responsibility, originality, open-mindedness, and tact. Responsible for relieving the Executive Director of administrative detail and coordinating special projects as assigned. Serve to increase the capacity of the administrator to carry out the duties and responsibilities of his/her position. Responsible for making recommendations to the administrator involving broad areas of policy formulation or complex administrative action and responsible for effecting such recommendations.
This position is not eligible for telework, this position is in person only.

Working Conditions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS : Must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, endurance and sensory ability to perform the duties contained in the duty statement. The position requires prolonged sitting and extensive use of telephones, computers, and other office equipment. Incumbent will be working on a personal computer for extended periods of time.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS : Incumbents will be exposed to all Clinical and Support services areas of the facility. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment.
Incumbents must have the ability and knowledge to use a personal computer, computer programs/applications such as Excel, Microsoft, Teams, Zoom, etc. and modern office methods. Ongoing interaction with clients, personnel and the public. This position requires problem solving skills and ability to communicate effectively.
This position must physically report to Porterville Developmental Center to conduct their duties. Regular telework is not available due to the nature of this position. Incumbent is expected to maintain a consistent work schedule as directed by the Executive Director.

The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.
These disabilities include intellectual disability, ce rebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
