About the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human DevelopmentThe Department of Education Leadership, Policy, and Human Development (ELPHD) comprises 40 full-time faculty members and more than 750 students. ELPHD advances education through scholarship, leadership, and advocacy. Faculty in ELPHD prepare counselors, educational leaders, and workplace professionals who are committed to improve education—from K-12 schools, to Community Colleges and universities, to workplace training—through applied theory, rigorous research, professional ethics, and data-driven best practice. Essential Job Duties:

The Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development at NC State’s College of Education seeks an exceptional candidate to work in the area of Community College Leadership. This appointment will be a professional-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor of Practice in the Community College program area. The position provides focused leadership and support for a practitioner-focused cohort-designed Ed.D. program in Community College Leadership. The person for this appointment will collaborate with the Belk Center for Community College Leadership to enhance the student experience. This person’s practical experience and expertise to enhance the excellence of the academic community and contribute to the College of Education’s overarching goal of leading the way in North Carolina and beyond to increase postsecondary completion and success to ensure improved social and economic mobility for all.
Key responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the Community College Leadership Ed.D. Program Coordinator, which includes being the point of contact for student admission inquiries, leading recruitment activities and coordinating admissions and selection processes.
  • Develop courses for the Ed.D. program in Community College Leadership and contribute to program design, development, and evaluation of the program
  • Engage with colleagues in collaborative curriculum design and planning, contribute to the intellectual diversity of the department, and mentor doctoral students
  • Chair dissertations in the Ed.D. (applied problems of Practice) program
  • Teach (hybrid, face-to-face, and online) Ed.D. courses
  • Coordinate Ed.D. program delivery sites, web content, and course schedules
  • Effectively recruit, guide, and advise graduate students in the Ed.D. program
  • Manage email and web-related communication with students, including monthly newsletter
  • Provide leadership to alumni efforts, including engagement, surveys, and participation in events
  • Coordinate and assess student wrap-around services
  • Coordinate social and related gatherings of students, alumni, and program faculty
  • Contribute to the overall departmental, college, and university missions through research, teaching, and engagement/outreach service
Other Responsibilities:

  • Follow CED Business Office guidelines to develop and track contracts for coaches, mentors, and contracted services.
  • Assist in the creation of e-surveys for project data collection.
  • Travel to offsite instructional locations and Community Colleges as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience:

  • A doctorate in higher education or a related area
  • A minimum of five years of work experience in higher education, Community College, or equivalent settings
Other Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience and connections with Community Colleges and their work
  • Demonstrated experiences in mentoring and guiding graduate students through research/dissertations
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply skills of effective digital instructional technologies within courses
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with students as well as to prepare future education professionals to work with various populations
  • Experience with multiple teaching and mentoring modalities and the ability to develop online course content including synchronous and asynchronous components
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in or with Community Colleges
  • Experience with student recruitment
  • Experience with college teaching at the graduate level
  • Experience with online teaching
