Other Conditions: General or Special funds. Appointment to begin August 2024. Selectee is required to complete the COE New Faculty Orientation in the first year, Title IX training, and pass a criminal background check.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Teach required courses in the Health and Exercise Science Program at the undergraduate and graduate levels in various topics related to general kinesiology, exercise physiology, neuromotor control and development, strength and conditioning, and sport psychology.
  • Develop and teach face-to-face on campus, hybrid, and/or online courses.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate Health and Exercise Science Majors.
  • Advise and work with graduate students at the Masters and PhD degree levels.
  • Collaborate with current faculty in developing, coordinating, and managing lab spaces for the purpose of research and teaching.
  • Develop and maintain a vigorous scholarly research program that will facilitate acquisition of external funding (from both public and private entities), and enhance graduate student recruitment.
  • Maintain an active research agenda and publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Assist in maintaining national program recognitions or accreditation, i.e., participate in accreditation process, documentation and report preparation for program evaluation for KRS programs.
  • Participate in ongoing curriculum development to keep pace with technological and scientific advancement in the field.
  • Contribute in creating a Native Hawaiian place of learning, advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Provide department, college, university and community service.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. PhD in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or closely related field from an accredited institution; will consider ABD if completed by start date
  2. Successful teaching experience in Exercise Science and kinesiology courses
  3. Demonstrated scholarly achievement in a field related to in Kinesiology (e.g., exercise physiology, rehabilitation, Exercise Science, sport performance, or sport psychology, etc.)

Desired Qualifications:
  1. Experience in hybrid and/or online course development and teaching.
  2. Minimum two years of successful teaching experience in Exercise Science and kinesiology courses (e.g, physiological aspects of physical activity and exercise in individuals with clinical conditions and/or disabilities; the role of physical activity in the assessment, management, and prevention of chronic disease and disability; exercise testing and training in sport performance; exercise physiology, neuromotor control and development, strength and conditioning, health education, or sport psychology)
  3. Experience with interdisciplinary research and ability to collaborate across disciplines.
  4. Experience in grant writing and/or management.
  5. Demonstrated record of, or high potential for, securing extramural research funding.
  6. Demonstrated record of scholarly leadership (i.e., refereed publications) in the area of exercise physiology and related areas.
  7. Competence in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  8. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  9. Hold certification(s) such as NASM, CSCS, ATC, ACSM.
  10. Practical application or clinical experience in Exercise Science or related fields.
  11. Demonstrated success in advising/mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students.
