Position Overview
Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education in the College of Education at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a tenure-track, nine month faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor or as defined by the North Carolina A&T State University Faculty Handbook. The successful applicant will begin August 2020, and will be expected to assume a central role in teaching graduate level courses in Adult Education, advising students, and enacting an explicit research agenda. The department seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and creative scholar-practitioner committed to quality teaching, student success, strong research, and scholarly productivity. The Master's degree program in Adult Education prepares professionals to become leaders for adult learners in business, for-profit and non-profit organizations, community colleges, and four-year institutions of higher education. The program also follows professional standards devised by the Commission of Professors of Adult Education. Courses are offered in the evenings and at times are offered online to accommodate the professional development needs of adult learners.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
Through its commitment to civic engagement, transformative research, and creative scholarship, the Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education produces leaders who are critical thinkers and social justice advocates capable of transforming organizations and institutions to maximize human potential. The Adult Education program is designed to equip students with the skills to become effective educator in a variety of formal, nonformal and informal educational settings. This program aligns with the vision and mission of the College of Education, which is a learning centered organization that prepares educational and human service leaders who create, use, and share knowledge on equity, access, and advocacy in local, national, and global communities. The College offers degrees at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must possess:
-An earned doctoral degree in Adult Education, or an earned doctorate in a related discipline with a specialization in Adult Education and/or two-four years of experience in Adult Education by the date of anticipated appointment
-Degree must be acquired from an accredited university at the time of appointment
-Demonstrated ability to teach at the graduate level
-Demonstrated evidence of research and scholarly productivity beyond the dissertation
-Demonstrated evidence of service activity
-Knowledge of pertinent theories and practices as they relate to program content
-An ability to teach in face-to-face and virtual settings
-An ability to work with diverse adult populations in academic and professional work situations
-Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Preferred Experience:
-Record of teaching at the graduate level
-Demonstrated expertise in research in quantitative or qualitative methodology
-Demonstrated expertise in developing online courses for graduate programs
-Demonstrated record of academic advising and/or serving on thesis/dissertation committees
-Demonstrated awareness of the intersections of Adult Education, diversity and inclusion studies
-Familiarity and utilization of multi-media tools studies
commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. This activity includes manuscript publications in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, procurement of extramural funds, and presentations facilitated at well-respected meetings and conferences.
The preferred candidate will have demonstrated expertise in quantitative research methodology and knowledge of pertinent theories and practices as they relate to program content as well as a proven ability to use adult learning strategies in both face-to-face and virtual settings and the ability to work with diverse adult populations in academic and professional working relationships.
