DEFINITION: This job/class works under the Assistant Chief of EMS with the organization. The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, coordinate and train personnel. Employees in this classification perform mostly Emergency Medical training, but may also be used to perform other training as determined by the Fire Chief or designee. These topics may include: Fire, Rescue, Special Operations, Mental Health, Policies and any other department needed topics. They also are responsible for following the Department's policies and procedures, and emergency plans and operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Not all-inclusive): Works with Assistant Chief of EMS or Fire Training to coordinate assigned training and other assignments. Helps to develop training for assigned personnel; helps develop procedures and protocols; be able to train others in same as listed above. Participates in monitoring related licenses and certifications. May represent department in external and internal committees as assigned. Assists in maintaining reports and helps prepare statistical data in requested format. Makes recommendations for specifications of equipment along with Ensuring preventive maintenance and repair of equipment is performed properly and timely fashion. Obtains and maintains thorough knowledge of specific laws, plans, policies and procedures, and codes pertaining to the Fire Department and the assigned organizational subunit. Follows the directions of the chain of command and written policies during the operation of the organizational subunit in the event of natural or manmade disasters. Responds to situations while following orders to provide staffing in order to operate fire or EMS equipment. This can be within our city boundaries or outside of them. Aids in the mitigation of both emergency and non-emergency incidents as directed by supervisor or policy. Expected to keep up to date in both knowledge and practical application with both EMS and Fire tasks. This shall be accomplished by attending professional and technical seminars, training classes and conferences. At times this may require off shift commitment to accomplish this task. Expectation to proactively manage and exercise control over rumors and negativity within the workplace. This involves taking steps to prevent the spread of unfounded information or negative sentiments, and instead, fostering a positive and constructive work environment where open communication and teamwork are encouraged. Expected to manage and keep work area organized and clean along with any vehicle assigned to the position. Evaluates personnel in the field or in controlled environments to determine proficiency or training needs as directed by policy or supervisor. Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Six years in fire service, fire administration, training or closely related experience.
Two years supervisory experience in a professional fire department.
Current Florida driver's license
A.A. or A.S degree in fire science, EMS, administration or related field.
(within 24 months of employment.)
Florida Firefighter certificate of compliance
Florida Paramedic certification
Florida Fire Officer 1 certification
Florida Fire Instructor 1 certification
BLS certification (AHA Preferred)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Instructor certifications in ACLS, PALS, CPR and ITLS or PHTLS. (Within 24 months of hire date)
Florida Fire Officer 2 certification (Within 24 months of hire date)
Florida Fire Instructor 2 certification. (Required once AA/AS obtained)
International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) (Within 12 months of hire date)
