Brief Description:
Pali Institute is hiring an Assistant Director for their Outdoor Education program. This is a full time, year-round position that oversees virtually all aspects of our large, fast paced Outdoor Education program. Pali Institute is a residential OE program that hosts over 30,000 students a year for 3-5 days at a time.
Job Requirements:
General Administration
- Works with other assistant, program, and department directors to meet program needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree is required.
- Three years in a management or supervisor position in a similar styled program required, demonstrating strong leadership and management skills.
- Ability to tactfully provide feedback, and appropriately communicate information to staff, administration, teachers, and parents.
- Experience working with large groups and programming in an overnight camp setting.
- Must be able to walk 3-4 miles daily on steep hills at elevation.
- Must be diverse in philosophies to work with various types of school groups.
- Must demonstrate good judgment, problem solving and decision-making ability in time sensitive situations.
- Organized, ability to multi-task, take initiative and work independently.
- Must be approachable and flexible, with excellent time management skills.
- Accepting of feedback with a desire to grow professionally.
- Experience with certification process, ACA, WASC, AEE, or any similar certification preferred.
Essential Functions/Duties
- Act as a mentor and supervisor to 18 leadership staff, providing constructive direction and coaching to help develop their professional skills.
- Create the weekly leadership and meal schedule, manage, and respond to time-off requests.
- Responsible for the supervision and general oversight of 90+ instructor staff, including staff discipline.
- Assist in planning and executing staff training twice a year, any other program support as needed.
- Assist with medication distribution and Wellness Center functioning as needed.
- Assistance with training, logistical planning, and customer service for Pali Outback programs.
- Understand and apply pertinent personnel policies, laws, rules, and regulations.
Compensation:
- $67,000 - $70,000 salary. This is a year-round position including 2 weeks paid vacation, holidays, as well as medical benefits, dental, vision and paid sick time. Schedule will vary to accommodate the program needs and calendar throughout the year.
