The Assistant Director role provides leadership and oversight for newly admitted, incoming, and newly arriving International Students. Beyond technical responsibilities (processing admissions documents, verification of lawful presence, home base orientation, and advisement), the Assistant Director will supervise one ISA (incoming International Student advisor), three graduate assistants, and multiple V.I.S.A leaders. The Role will be responsible for creating and establishing essential support services for new International Students with respect to both immigration compliance as well as retention and integration programming.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
Provide expert immigration advice and guidance regarding issuance of the I-20 and DS-2019, as well as verification of lawful presence processes to GSU's newly admitted F-1, J-1, and International Students via phone, email, videoconference, and in-person.
• Liaise with various GSU departments and federal offices as needed when faced with complex immigration issues.
• Advise and assist incoming students with complex immigration scenarios, such as transfer-in eligibility, change of visa status, visa issuance, and reinstatement.
• Conduct workshops and presentations as needed on I-20/DS-2019 eligibility, issuance, and verification of lawful presence requirements.
• Use Banner, Sunapsis, and SEVIS to report information, solve problems, and gather needed data.
• Manage and execute International Student Orientation (via Homebase) each semester.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Hiring Qualifications:
Master's degree in related field; experience working with F-1 and J-1 International Students;
meet the Department of Homeland Security's requirements for Designation School Official (DSO) and Alternative Responsible Office
