HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

First-Year & Transition Programs in the Office of Student Success is seeking an Assistant Director to contribute to successful retention, progression, and graduation of students, especially those in their First Year of college. The Assistant Director will lead first-year program staff and initiatives designed to help students successfully matriculate at Georgia State and help them reach their retention, progression, and graduation goals. The Assistant Director will create and implement effective programs designed to support undergraduate students academically as they transition from high school and other collegiate institutions. The Assistant Director will play a major role in implementing predictive analytics and proactive outreach to improve student outcomes. The Assistant Director will also serve as the university liaison to faculty and peer offices within and outside the enrollment services suite of offices. These positions are on the front line of the institution's commitment to helping students from all backgrounds succeed at high rates.

Assistant Director, FLC/PLC, Academic Coaching & Early Alert – Essential Functions:

  • Leads and provides strategic planning for Freshman Learning Communities, Academic Coaching, Early Alert, and other academic support initiatives with campus and external partners to create robust programming, academic support, and campus engagement opportunities.
  • Sets direction and provides supervisory duties such as hiring, training, and evaluating staff regarding university policies and procedures, technical systems such as, but not limited to EAB Navigate and Banner, including:
  • Academic Counselor for Freshman Learning Communities responsible for collaborating with campus partners to develop and deliver a learning community model for all six campuses and manage onboarding activities.
  • Academic Specialist for Academic Coaching and Early Alert responsible for managing budget, hiring, and training activities for graduate assistant Academic Coaches, tracking and reporting Academic Coaching and Early Alert outreach and intervention.
  • Retention Coordinators who work on a wide variety of programming and initiatives, including GSU 1050, Keep Hope Alive, Common Curriculum, digital communication, and social media management for the department.
  • Evaluate and maintain student records for special populations within the department, monitor student registration activities and academic performance/progress, coordinate communications to students regarding registration, programming, and academic resources, and monitor and track retention, progression, and graduation for all students within assigned populations.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties in support of the student success, including collection of data; maintaining documentation files; writing and formatting a variety of correspondence, reports, procedures, and presentations related to First Year & Transition Programs; and developing outreach materials, including newsletters and social media sites.
  • Serves as a liaison to other campus departments and student success units to effectively implement programmatic plans and coordinate student success initiatives. Work with these units and other campus-wide committees to develop and track metrics regarding student success outcomes. Coordinates communication with campus partners and faculty on academic program changes or updates.
  • Teaches GSU 1010/PCO 1020 classes.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree and three years of supervisory/management experience or a combination of training and related experience.

    Preferred Hiring Requirements:

    • Preference may be given to those who possess a master’s degree and experience in implementing programs for retention and progression to graduation and success for all students such as bridge programs, academic coaching, peer mentoring, financial literacy, transition from HS to college, etc.
    • Experience presenting to small and large groups; effective verbal and written communication.
