Job Description
- EXPLO Junior, for students in grades 4-7 at Regis College in Weston, MA.
- EXPLO Intermediate, for students in grades 8-9 at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY.
- Establish and maintain a safe and inspiring environment
- Organize, distribute and maintain the Art and Maker supplies, including requisition and inventory
- Develop purposeful artistic activities (in conjunction with the Programming Office) for students across various mediums, facilitate execution of activities with assistance from other staff members
- Communicate and collaborate with other offices on artistic/maker endeavors as related to student events, class projects, theme days, etc.
- Prepare for and teach 1-3 workshops/electives using EXPLO’s project-based and experiential curriculum (This curriculum will be shared with you as part of pre-summer coaching + training)
- Work closely with your Instructional Coach throughout the summer to revise lessons, incorporate feedback from classroom observations, and follow up on student performance
- Attend Professional Development sessions to improve teaching skills
- Provide a safe and effective learning environment for students
- Develop, implement and lead group activities for summer program students, which may include leading an activity or supervising at an evening event
- Chaperone students on evening and weekend trips off-campus
- Support with operational and programmatic tasks as needed, which may include assisting with event set up, working individually and as a team to complete tasks on campus that are necessary to program function, and performing additional duties as they may be assigned to you
- Working knowledge of a broad range of artistic disciplines
- A keen sense of designing and executing artistic activities for students of all ability levels
- Experience with Maker spaces and tools used including 3D printers, drill presses, circular saws, etc.
- Availability to live and work on campus for the duration of the summer program
- 2+ years of post-high school experience by the summer
- Some experience with kids and/or adolescents
- Room and board for the duration of 7-week program including all meals
- Staff-only affinity spaces and other professional support and development opportunities
- A week-long, hands-on orientation and job training
- Best in the industry staff to student ratios
- Daily time off that typically includes every other night off and one weekend day per weekend off
- Openness to working with your college or university to support internship or practicum credit for your EXPLO work
- EXPLO offers two certifications for summer staff members to honor and illustrate the skills built throughout the program. Certifications include: "Experiential Learning: Student-Centered Teaching" and "Coaching for Growth"
