Summary



The Solid Waste Division (SWD), Operations Section is looking for a motivated individual who takes a customer centric approach that is task driven to providing high results. This role provides administrative support for the day-to-day workflow of the SWD transfer stations, drop boxes, and a 920-acre landfill. The units include the Shop, Heavy Equipment Engineers, Wastewater, Landfill Gas Techs, Transportation, Transfer Station personnel, Supervisors and Managers. Operations unit runs the garbage business for King County and it’s facilities.
SWD provides garbage transfer, disposal, and recycling services for residents and businesses in all of King County, except for Seattle and Milton. SWD also provides hazardous waste disposal options and recycling education programs for its residents and small businesses. King County customers dispose of more than 920,000 tons of solid waste each year. The Operations Section manages the active 920+ acre landfill, eight transfer stations and two drop box facilities. This position support approximately 280 employees, managers, and supervisors.
In addition to filling this two (2) year temporary assignment (i.e. Special Duty Assignment (SDA) for eligible King County Employees or Term-limited Temporary (TLT) for external candidates), we may use this recruitment to create a list of candidates for any potential vacancies in similar positions within the next 12 months.
About this Role:
Primary function of this this role, is to support the day-to-day workflow of supervisors, management, and employee needs. This Administrative position is key to providing support of internal and external communication, data entry, customer service, and more. Manage office inventory, purchase and/or pay for training, and office supplies, manage IP faxes, assist employees with computer and training needs, schedule meetings as appropriate, arrange catering for designated meeting, edit and/or compose correspondence, update lists, and more.

Job Duties

  • Support Supervisors and staff at 8 transfer stations, 2 drop boxes, and a 920-acre landfill
  • Update and maintain lists and some established databases
  • Draft and send correspondence i.e. memos, IP faxing, letters, brochures
  • Help manage supply inventory
  • Provide excellent internal and external customer service

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring:


  • Minimum two (2) years of experience working in an office environment supporting multiple managers.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in using MS Office applications (i.e. Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Possess strongwriting skills, including proper usage of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License upon hire.

  • Intermediate MS office skills which includes PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of MS Teams and SharePoint

  • Working knowledge of LEAN concepts

Working Conditions:


  • Onsite Work Requirement:
    The work associated with this position will be located: Cedar Hills Landfill, 16645 228th Avenue SE, Maple Valley, WA.
  • Work Schedule: This position works a 40-hour workweek and is overtime eligible with Supervisor approval. Work schedules options are as follows: Day shifts: 5/8 Mon – Fri, 4/10 Mon – Thur or Tues – Fri
  • Union Representation: This position is represented by Teamsters Local 117 Administrative Employees.
