Job description

The Criminal Division represents the City in prosecuting misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors and traffic infractions in Seattle Municipal Court. The types of cases prosecuted by the Division include driving under the influence, domestic violence, theft assault, property damage and trespassing.

The Video Specialist for the Criminal Division you will be a key player in supporting assistant city prosecutors within the division with discovery and evidence management and public disclosure requests.

Job Responsibilities

  • Requesting and tracking video evidence from Seattle Police Department and civilian victims and witnesses utilizing the Division's case management system software DAMION
  • Managing, uploading, and producing discovery in Evidence.com to defense attorneys and pro se defendants
  • Assisting with retrieval and requests for copies of physical digital evidence (such as surveillance or multi-media videos) from privately-owned recorders
  • Reviewing video and performing case-specific video research at the request of an assistant city prosecutor
  • Serving as subject matter expert for video evidence and providing training to staff and prosecutors
  • Redacting video evidence using Evidence.com redaction suite and/or Adobe Premier for criminal prosecution and public disclosure requests
  • Managing the retention schedule of Evidence.com video
  • Monitoring upcoming deadlines and prioritizing work accordingly
  • Communicating with Seattle Police Department, prosecutors, interns/volunteers, defense attorneys, pro se defendants and/or court personnel
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

You will be most successful in this role if you have the following experience, knowledge, and skills/abilities.

  • Experience using Evidence.com and Adobe Premier for redaction of video and audio
  • Knowledge of Washington state public disclosure laws and court rules related to discovery
  • Ability to communicate professionally, effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing with co-workers, attorneys, victims/witnesses and government officials
  • Ability to exercise good judgement
  • Ability to work well under pressure and/or stressful situations
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Ability to manage time and structure day based on work priority; and
  • Must be dependable.

In addition to the qualities mentioned above, you will need to possess the below required qualification (or a combination of education, training or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the job):

  • An associate degree in Video Production, Communications, TV/Film Journalism, or related field and a minimum of three years' experience working in video tape/slide program production including operating audio and video tape production equipment

OR


  • A combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work

  • Current Washington State driver's license.

Compensation and Benefits - This position is part of a stepped salary program with an initial Step 1 placement ($40.08/hour). Advanced initial step placement may be considered under limited circumstances, but step salaries are not subject to negotiation.
Full Range: $40.08 - $46.68 Hourly

Workplace Environment - The Seattle City Attorney's Office has implemented an Alternative Work Arrangements Policy. Employees will have the option to work a hybrid schedule (2 days in office, 3 days remote). This is subject to change as circumstances and business needs dictate.
