Hope Church is a progressive Christian church in Holland, Michigan, with an engaged congregation and many initiatives in discipleship, social justice, and faith formation.
The Team
The team is highly collaborative, both within itself and with the congregation, guided by but not limited to a defined job description. The team functions to facilitate the mission of Hope Church and the specific work of ordained clergy, which includes:
- Worship services that are focused on the worshiper experience
- Ministries, committees, and groups that function productively, rewarding volunteers with a sense of accomplishment
- Nurturing opportunities for connection between Hope Church and individuals, also among individuals, including care when needed
- Assuring good use of our assets, including our facility
- Managing “the business” of the church, including competent and transparent financial management and all relevant compliance
Summary Description: The Administrative Coordinator completes clerical, data-entry, and other office tasks in support of the team and church members. S/he distributes meeting documents, books meeting rooms, makes copies, answers phones. Critically, s/he is also the first point of contact for people coming into the Hope Church office, greeting, problem-solving, and directing based on the need.
Compensation: $17 to $23/hour
Hours: Part time at 28 hours per week, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday
Location: Downtown Holland, Michigan
Responsibilities
- Provide a warm and kind welcome; assist visitors to the church and office, expressing hospitality.
- Receive requests for pastoral care and membership support and direct to pastors or appropriate ministry.
- Support the Congregational Care Ministry with communications and maintenance of the care and concern list.
- As directed by the Operations Manager, enter and maintain accurate data for church membership and donors.
- Create the weekly bulletin, including layout, assuring appropriate copyright notifications, proofing, and preparation for printing.
- Be the primary manager of the online church calendar.
- As requested by the Operations Manager, order and stock office or kitchen supplies or equipment.
- Facilitate the organization of volunteers for various events and office support as needed or requested by lay leaders. Manage and report on sign-ups for events.
- Assemble weekly mailings to non-email-using members, and occasional mailings to the entire congregational mailing list.
- Assure that the Welcome Center is neatly stocked with appropriate materials.
Qualifications
- Ability to greet sincerely and work successfully with diverse individuals from unhoused neighbors to guest pastors.
- Ability to work in both self-directed and collaborative styles.
- General business knowledge normally acquired through an Associate degree.
- At least two years’ experience in an administrative role (or equivalent) preferred.
- Communication skills including both interpersonal and written; writing, editing, and proofreading; an eye for detail and an appreciation for numbers and data.
- Very strong competence in technology, including spreadsheets, Word documents, Google applications and Google Drive; confidence and willingness to learn.
- Ability to manage requests from multiple parties, making priority decisions or asking for clarification as needed.
- Problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
- Commitment to practicing confidentiality.
