Job description

The Children and Families Service Division (CFSD) is seeking a creative, organized and motivated individual to join our team! The CFSD is responsible for designing and overseeing an array of programs and services for California's at-risk children and families, including preventative services and activities to serve youth with complex needs; providing a statewide system for out of home care providers and appropriate services to children in out of home care; and facilitation of adoptions for children who need permanent homes.
Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of the CFSD, the Administrative Assistant will provide a high level of confidential, administrative and secretarial support to the Deputy Director, assistance to the Division Executive Assistant and support staff, and supervision and management of office services under direction of the Deputy Director of the Children and Family Services Division. Responsibilities include creating special studies and leading critical investigations to prepare legislatively mandated administrative reports and representing the Division and Deputy Director with other Divisions and Executive Level Staff, single point of contact for cross-divisional, cross-departmental issues, ensuring assignments are performed accurately, timely and completely.
The position requires that the incumbent develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of varied and complex administrative policies, procedures, and departmental operations; be able to independently analyze problems and take effective action; work under time constraints; adjust to changing priorities; exercise good judgment; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; and communicate effectively. The AA I performs a variety of moderately difficult tasks and the consequence of these activities is critical to ensure the office's daily functions and long-term capabilities in an accurate, timely, and effective manner when communicating department policies and positions to internal and external sources.

Telework / Remote Work Information: This position is eligible for Telework and currently works in a hybrid environment. The position requires some in-person attendance when requested. The employee would report to CDSS headquarters (744 P Street) in Sacramento if/when required to attend mandated in-person meetings, trainings, etc. Expenses related to travel to the office for required events are the responsibility of the employee. If telework/remote work ends, the position will have to report to CDSS headquarters in Sacramento.

Working Conditions
This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer's markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80.
