Job Description
Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate's degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College seeks an Administrative and Office Specialist. This position provides administrative and clerical support to the Southwest Virginia Community College Transportation & Logistics Center Operations located in Buchanan County, Virginia.
Responsibilities include:
- Working directly with students, faculty, and staff
- Preparing and maintaining class and faculty schedules, division and grant budgets, adjunct contracts, and various reports Coordinating special events
- Supervising assigned student workers
- Assisting students interested or enrolled in noncredit workforce training with career and educational planning services, program admissions, financial aid, and successful training/credential completion
- Working closely with students before, during, and after their training and credentialing programs to help college workforce divisions achieve their goals related to Complete 2021 and the Workforce Credentials Grant program
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
This position requires a 12-month probationary period for both new hires and transfers.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Office management and clerical experience
- Proficient usage of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills
- Must maintain confidentiality, respond to internal and external requests for information, and work with diverse groups of students
- Experience with student resources including financial aid (e.g., WCG, FANTIC) and supportive services
- Listening, helping, and effective problem solving skills
- An understanding of and a commitment to the community college mission and vision
- Ability to build relationships and provide excellent coaching services to students pursuing short-term workforce training
- Strong recordkeeping skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with community college, workforce partners, and employers.
Additional Considerations
- Experience using PeopleSoft
- Prior work experience in a community college setting or in workforce development
