About the Indiana Department of Transportation:

Salary: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $39,000.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
Location: This position is located in INDOT's Central Office, Indianapolis.
Role Overview: The Accounts Payable Auditor is responsible for working within an office environment to support the agency's mission. This position is required to have some background in an office environment using established procedures and adhering to guidelines, policies and procedures. The person in this role works independently, adhering closely to established policies, guidelines and procedures.
The Accounts Payable Auditor provides support to INDOT's Accounts Payable department which processes approximately 150,000 invoices per year, paying more than $3 billion to our vendors relating to road construction, consulting, real estate acquisition and operational expenses. This position serves as the auditor and final approver for payments made by the agency. The incumbent also creates receipts for goods and services in the State's financial system (PeopleSoft Financials) and performs tasks that support other job duties within the finance team as well.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
  • Research and compile information on specific aspects of the program such as procedures, needs and policies.
  • Answer basic customer questions about program policies and procedures.
  • Establish, organize, and maintain current and historical files related to the program.
  • Collect information to help in the preparation of program reports, develop applications, prepare budget allocations and/or purchasing of consultative services.
  • Maintain, organize, and monitor program assets.
  • Schedule, prepare, and disseminate all program related training materials.

What You'll Need for Success:
This person must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:
  • General knowledge of the program area.
  • Working knowledge of applicable legislation, guidelines, agency policy and professional standards and practices.
  • Ability to research and compile specific topics related to program area.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a group decision-making process.
  • Tact in dealing with other agency personnel and the public.
  • Specialized knowledge of accounting principles.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
