Primary responsibilities include planning, directing and implementing a comprehensive ministry with young people in grades six to twelve and for young adults ages eighteen to forty, developing and implementing opportunities for young people to participate in the life, mission and work of the Catholic faith community, as well as doing a needs assessment, setting goals and objectives, and developing an action plan for parish youth and young adult ministry. Responsibilities will also include leading Sacramental Preparation for those to be Confirmed, recruiting, preparing and supporting a Youth and Adult Core Team, as well as maintaining communication with the Pastor, parish staff/council, adult volunteers, and local high schools. The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry will work to build up a vibrant parish life defined by evangelizing and forming youth, young adults and families as missionary disciples of Jesus Christ.
Preferred Professional Requirements and Experience
- Must be a fully initiated member of the Catholic Church in good standing, and a committed disciple of Jesus Christ
- Should have a professional or academic degree in Religious Education, catechetics or related field; or three years of equivalent expertise in the field of Youth Ministry
- Experience in parish ministry, campus ministry, or education
- Willingness to conform to the Diocese of Pittsburgh Safe Environment Policies
- The ability to work a flexible schedule that will include nights and weekends
Skills and Competencies
- Have outstanding organizational, administrative and collaborative management skills
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong presentation skills and competency in creating and leading formation with youth and young adults
- Ability to develop and plan a calendar for the year which reflects an effective, comprehensive youth program. This would include planning and maintaining a budget.
- Understanding of contemporary culture, especially relevant to teens, young adults, and families.
- Adaptable to the changing needs of the parish community.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, working knowledge of emailing platforms such as Flocknote and competency in multiple social media outlets.
