As an Intake Specialist, your role is critical to our ministry as the first point of contact, and a gatekeeper to our services. You will quickly assess the needs of our clients and triage them to determine the best available services.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:
This position requires an understanding of the entire scope of services provided by Atlanta Mission to determine our ability to meet our client's immediate and long-term needs.
Ensures a warm and engaging client experience by welcoming them to Atlanta Mission, and works to build rapport
Responds to admission inquiries through various channels (walk-ins, phone, email)
Performs initial screenings for admissions to determine our client's eligibility for internal or external services
Ensures clients complete paperwork correctly and enters information into the client management database
Collaborates and communicates with other teams to facilitate the intake and orientation process for new clients
Performs new client orientation and explains types of services offered by Atlanta Mission
Assigns beds to clients in the management database
Meets clients'needs by providing bed rolls, hygiene and clothing items, marta cards, etc
Serves as a campus tour guide for clients
Assists with crisis intervention management through the utilization of crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
Assists with client check-in which may include carrying their personal belongings
Assists with the coordination of health checks and screening for communicable diseases
Transports clients to external resources that are not accessible via public transportation

Position Requirements:
Possess a working knowledge of (1) the process of mental illness, (2) the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders (DSM) and (3) recovery philosophy
Knowledge and appropriate therapeutic boundaries for working with vulnerable populations
Ability to use objective and subjective measurements to assess and analyze client's needs
Persuasive manner and skills in overcoming resistant and defiant clients
Engages and establishes good rapport with a diverse group of people
Ability to resolve conflict effectively
Ability to leverage motivational interviewing to accurately assess client's need and match to internal and external resources
Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills
Well organized, diligent and reliable in following through on commitments
Ability to prioritize all aspects of the job through time management and organizational skills while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret clinical documents including but not limited to medical reports, psychological evaluations, and psychiatric diagnoses
Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and cross-functionally to carry out a variety of critical and time-sensitive projects without detailed instructions
Ability to quickly establish a rapport with diverse individuals to collect the necessary information
Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints
Adheres to all laws, regulations, codes of conduct/ethics governing the client/staff relationship
Reports legal, ethical and/or safety concerns and ensures client compliance of policies
Must have valid driver's license, good MVR, and be older than 21 years old to drive company vehicles
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing, walking or sitting)
Must have the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Must be able to frequently ascend/descend stairs
Must have the ability to constantly operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a copy machine, calculator and computer printer
Must be able to lift up to 50lb
