Description:
Major purpose:
- Plans, coordinates, and performs manufacturing engineering work for a project or process.
- Operates in a team environment within either the enterprise product delivery process or the enterprise order fulfillment process.
- At this level, projects are of moderate scope and responsibility or may be a significant portion of a major and diverse project or process; decisions are made within established guidelines and may be reviewed by supervisors and/or managers.
- May assign, coordinate and review portions of the work for support personnel, contractors and suppliers.
Major Duties:
- Establishes routings, methods, layouts, tools, costs, methods documentation, quality plans and labor standards for revisions to current operations and/or new parts or programs of moderate scope.
- Provides support and trouble shooting for current operations. Investigates, gathers and analyze data and implement solutions.
- Innovates and implements cost reduction, quality, safety and ergonomic improvement ideas of moderate scope.
- Applies electronic tools across a broad range of applications, including e-builds, modeling and simulations.
- Develops and implements plans to support lean manufacturing through the Client Production System of moderate scope.
- Designs operations layouts.
- Improves material flow and material presentation.
- Leads team studies related to capacity, energy, productivity and efficiency of moderate scope.
- Leads analysis, development and implementation of new manufacturing processes and technology.
- Analyzes and makes modifications to existing performance pay plans; assists in development of baseline data for new performance pay plans.
Shift:
- Position will work either 1st (6 am to 3:30 pm), 2nd (2:30 pm to 11 pm), or 3rd (10:30 pm to 7 am) shift.
- Candidates must be open to all shifts, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Overtime is likely either during weekdays or weekends.
Here are some position duties that are required for all workers:
- 8 hours on feet on concrete, brisk walk to and from multiple cells up to maximum distance of 1200 ft many times during shift, carry and work from ladder 8 to 10' off the floor for 1 to 2 hours, and up and down 40 steps several times a day.
As a Weld Manufacturing Engineer for Tractor Cab Assembly Operations (TCAO) located in Waterloo, Iowa you will provide support of welding and fabrication operations utilizing your technical experiences.
In addition, you will:
- Drive continuous improvements working with a cross functional wage and salary team
- Address quality issues utilizing data, root cause analysis, and mistake proofing methods
- Establishing sequence of events, part routings, proper operating method sheets, labor standards, layouts, tool concepts, part and equipment costs, and quality plans
- Participate in team studies related to capacity, productivity, and efficiency
- Support the launch of new product lines, model year changes & running changes
What Skills You Need:
- 1 3 years Fanuc Robotics Programming Knowledge & Experience
- 1 3 years PLC Logic Understanding and Troubleshooting
- 1 3 years' experience with welding of High Strength, low alloy steel
- 1 3 years' experience with fabrication processes including laser cutting and bending
- Ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift, weekly overtime, and periodic Saturdays
What Makes You Stand Out:
- Understanding of safety critical welded structures and critical asset management
- Understanding of GD&T, Tool Design, & 3D Modeling Practical experience with Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
- Experience with shop floor manufacturing and incentive pay systems
- Demonstrated experience effectively interacting and communicating with production employees, supervisors, managers, and other engineers
- Experience using SAP and computer aided design and/or engineering tools (ie: Creo, AutoCAD, etc.)
- Experience in project management and business planning; small strategic projects or large tactical projects
- Knowledge of and experience with capital budgeting and equipment justification
- Experience with line design, material presentation, cycles of imbalance and visual management tools such as simulations and 3D factory
- Work experience in a union environment
