Role Summary
Magna, Eagle Bend Manufacturing is hiring an experience Weld Engineer to program and troubleshoot robotic welding equipment and provide training for operators in addition to assisting in APQP (Advance Product Quality Planning) for new products. Weld Engineers will be responsible for quality and conformance of product to customer specifications per control plan utilizing TS16949 & ISO14001 documented systems; authority to stop non-conforming processes and report same to supervisor, Quality Assurance, and/or Engineering department representative.
Key Responsibilities
- Program and troubleshoot robotic welders and ancillary equipment
- Provide operator instruction and training
- Plan, organize and maintain equipment and process data
- Maximize production efficiency by reducing equipment downtime
- Assist Program Engineers at development stage during new product development
- Develop and implement Continuous Improvement suggestions
- Serve as Volkswagen Product Safety Representative (PSB is the customer-designation)
- Housekeeping and other duties as assigned
Resourcing of Weld Nuts (cost savings)
- Review of weld nut data and comparison to current (dimensional, mechanical, chemical)
- Conduct physical trials of feeder systems
- Conduct physical trials of weld nuts
- Work with QC lab to document and present results
- Work with QEs for samples and data for customer approval
- Work with EBM staff to adjust settings based on results and repeat trials
- Shielding Gas diffuser studies
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- Degreed Welding Engineer, or equivalent science degree -OR-
- Certified Welding Inspector from approved internationally recognized organization -OR-
- 5 years of experience in welding operations or 5 years of combined metallurgical
Technical Education
- Knowledge of weld processes, both MIG and resistance spot welding
- Programming of robotic welders and repairs to same
- Blueprint reading
- Basic and advanced electrical knowledge including ability to read schematics
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Good mathematical knowledge including trigonometry
- Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) preferred
