Description
This job will require working various shifts, overtime, and off-shift production/maintenance support. Management of hourly employees required.
Provide welding engineering support to the Body production organization.
Scope of Responsibilities:
Knowledge of joining processes to include:
- Welding processes – spot, mig, plasma, laser welding
- Resistance Spot welding - steel and aluminum
- Sealer & Adhesive Vehicle requirements
- Clinch & Rivet Applications
- Drawn Arc Stud Welding
- Projection weld nut welding
- Maintain, implement and continuously improve process control methods for the body shop welding, fastening, sealing & adhesive applications to include:
- Maintain database of all non-conforming joining problems
- Maintain weld equipment with yearly certifications
- Maintain and update all weld tool information sheets
- Support GMS, ISO and BIQ Certifications for Body Shop
- Provide plant floor troubleshooting, training and problem solving to root cause analysis
- Propose and evaluate manufacturing processes and equipment for assigned areas
- Be a technical resource for manufacturing engineers, skilled trades and production teams
- Process validation experience with new equipment build, installation and start-up
- Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to the manufacturing process
- Must be able to rotate or work off shifts
- Provide a safe work environment & comply with all policies
- Work with engineering & production teams for quality, warranty & cost improvement activities
- Coordinate input from internal/external customers to meet customer needs and/or perceptions
- Manage hourly quality inspection team for welding, dispense and torque monitoring.
- Manage hourly weld destruct personnel.
Required Qualifications
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusually difficult
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
- High level of written and oral communications skills
Education and Training
- Bachelors Degree in Weld Engineering or equivalent work experience
- Knowledge of GM Welding, Dispense and Robotic Standards
- 3-5+ years’ experience functioning in a similar role within an automotive and/or high-tech manufacturing environment Knowledge of GM Manufacturing Systems
