Summary Statement

The City of Boise Public Works Department is seeking an experienced environmental education professional to join our team in the position of WaterShed Education Coordinator. The WaterShed is a state-of-the-art Water Education Center located at the West Boise Water Renewal Facility. This position is 50% water-based education and teaching, with additional responsibilities in volunteer management and event coordination.

Develops and teaches place-based environmental education programming and events designed for a range of audiences, from preschool aged children to adults. Prepares and updates curriculum to align with learning goals. Conducts community outreach. (50%)
Plans and implements events and programs. Collaborates with staff in various city departments and external partners to offer programming that focuses on educating residents about the city's water and climate programs. Engages adults and teens in public works' mission and vision. Coordinates with speakers and partner organizations to ensure excellent delivery and service. Occasionally facilitates teacher workshops. (20%)
Coordinates, recruits and supports volunteers for The WaterShed Education Center and supports community volunteer events. (10%)
Markets educational and volunteer programs through traditional and online media. Coordinates marketing efforts with internal and external partners. (10%)

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
+ Bachelor's degree in education, communications, science or related field, and
+ 3 years of environmental education experience, or
+ An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
+ Master's degree in education, communications, science, or a related field
+ Experience in teaching, facilitating groups, public speaking, and climate change communication
+ Managing volunteers and project management and development in a related position
+ Ability and willingness to interact and engage with stakeholders and customers of all ages
+ Bilingual English/Spanish oral proficiency
Level of Knowledge:
+ Standards, practices and trends in the field of environmental educational programming, program implementation and evaluation
+ Environmental studies, including local environmental issues
+ Basic marketing and public relations practices
Ability To:
+ Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate environmental education programs and events
+ Develop and implement marketing strategies
+ Work with a broad customer demographic to coordinate community, business and volunteer groups
+ Work independently under general supervision
+ Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance and express ideas clearly and concisely
+ Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation
Licensing And Other Requirements
+ First Aid and CPR Certification or the ability to obtain certification within six months of hire.

Working Environment
The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures and in wet and humid conditions. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria and bodily fluids. Employees walk on gravel roads near open wastewater, near Boise River, canal and ponds and possible encounterswith wildlife and insects.
This position works: weekends and after-hours events as needed.
