Position Details

The City of Auburn Public Works - Engineering department is seeking a Water Resources/Source Control Inspector to join our team.
This position performs office and field work for implementing the City's Stormwater Source Control Program required by the Washington State Department of Ecology National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit and the City's Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) reduction program. The position performs various technical and complex public contact work related to the investigation, inspection, coordination, and resolution of various mandated programs to assure compliance with other federal, state, and local laws and regulations regarding surface water and wastewater treatment, disposal, and management.
Primary Duties
In this role, you will:
  • Implement the City's Source Control Program and performs onsite inspections of publicly and privately owned facilities ensuring compliance with the requirements of the NPDES Permit.
  • Track source control corrections, violations, and specific NPDES Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit requirements and reports compliance issues regularly to the City Storm Division.
  • Develop education and outreach messages and materials.
  • Investigate complaints and reports of Stormwater violations such as illicit discharges, spills and water quality concerns, and recommends course of action for correction.
  • Implement the City's FOG Program and performs onsite inspections of businesses ensuring compliance with City and King County Metro FOG/pretreatment requirements for discharges into the sewer system.

Minimum Qualifications
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR...
  • Two years college level course work in environmental science, engineering, or a related field
AND
  • one (1) year of relevant, applicable experience that demonstrates the ability to complete the essential responsibilities listed above
OR
  • a combination of education, training and experience that would indicate ability to complete the work responsibilities listed above.

REQUIRED LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Possess and retain a valid Washington State Driver's License during tenure of employment, without impending loss at time of appointment.
