Position Summary
The Vice President of Human Resources, People and Culture provides museum dedicated leadership and delivery of culture, inclusion and belonging, and talent strategies. This role advances an intentional workplace culture in which all staff can thrive and leads the investment in leadership and talent development. Builds and leads high-impact, people-focused strategic initiatives that strengthen the museum’s internal culture, and aligns with the organization's values, strategic vision, and commitment to DEIAB.
Essential Functions:
- Advances the workplace culture. Collaborates across the museum to develop and implement intentional workplace culture strategies and programs.
- Assesses the museum’s existing people programs and implements programs for enhancing the leadership, management and staff experience which may include engagement, positive work culture and a healthy work environment programs.
- Engages in interdepartmental meetings, strategy sessions, and cross-functional activities, to enhance connection to the overarching mission and priorities of the museum.
- Promotes impactful diversity and inclusion efforts led by the executive director of inclusion and belonging.
- Champions engagement and affinity forums.
- Designs and delivers impactful talent management and development strategies and programs.
- Ensures coaching, training and development processes that improve performance and growth opportunities for the leadership, management teams, and staff.
- Works collaboratively with the internal communications team to ensure internal communication inclusive of all staff in the organization.
- Leads the people and culture staff.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent amount of practical experience, demonstrating a solid foundation in HR and related disciplines.
- A minimum of ten years’ experience in human resource management, reflecting a substantial track record in guiding HR strategies and practices.
- Strong consultative approach and the ability to provide valuable counsel.
- Strong HR expertise, including experience with culture building, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion, as well as leadership and talent development. Training in and commitment to DEIAB and people-centered management.
- Proven ability in coaching and managing staff, including the effective organization of priorities, transparent communication of expectations, comprehensive training, development, adept performance management, and staff retention strategies.
- Ability to influence and negotiate favorable outcomes with all levels of constituents.
- Ability to build relationships with staff at all levels in the organization.
- Excellent change management and project management skills.
- Excellent leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to craft and deliver engaging content, adapting style as needed based on the situation and audience.
- Ability to maintain on-site “office hours” and presence with all staff and a variety of work schedules.
