Job description

The Highlights:
The Assistant Director is primarily responsible for advising and recruiting students educated outside of the U.S. Manage and oversee a recruitment and admission territory, including communication, recruitment, credential evaluation, admission, and yield activities in designated territory. Coordinate and plan special engagement and outreach activities to support International Admission. Advise and coordinate all aspects of the Global Ambassador Program. Serve as a resource for staff and faculty regarding international educational issues.


What You'll Do:

  • Manage a recruitment territory - Evaluate educational credentials and English proficiency to determine admissibility, following best practices and university policies. Maintain contact with prospective students, high school counselors and families throughout the application and admission process. Stay current on territory trends/campus news that could impact the prospective/applicant/admitted student and use this information to make informed decisions about how to engage a particular territory in the admission process. Develop and maintain a network of stakeholders (e.g. high school counselors, EducationUSA advisors, partnership programs, etc.) to promote the DePaul brand globally. Execute targeted activities in the recruitment territory; develop, implement, and monitor recruitment and yield activities specifically for the territory, designed to attract and enroll an international class of appropriate size and mix.
  • Advise Global Ambassador Program - Hire, train and advise the Global Ambassador Program comprised of undergraduate students who assist with prospective and admitted student outreach. Responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of technology/social media communication tools throughout the recruitment process. Coordinate their work/group meeting schedule, ensure stipend payments are made, and assist with creation of work flow and goals from term to term.
  • Serve as an advisor to prospects, applicants and newly admitted international students - Respond to inquiries and communicate university policies, international admission procedures, application information and status. Manage large volumes of e-mail and phone calls and assist walk-in visitors on the basis of a monthly “Counselor of the Day” calendar. Use cultural sensitivity and cross-cultural communication skills to manage interactions and guide students' steps to successful enrollment.
  • Engagement Coordinator - Coordinate on-campus visits to International Admission for larger student/counselor groups. Serve as liaison between International Admission and other university departments in hosting international guests to campus. Maintain and update the International Admission website including writing copy and links. Coordinate all aspects of the international calling campaign from implementation, training and final reporting.
  • Outside representation - Represent International Admission and DePaul to external constituents, at cultural activities and initiatives hosted by the university or in the city. Serve as an informational resource to the university on matters pertaining to international admission policies, practices and services. Participate in professional development opportunities and attend conferences. Maintain membership in professional organizations (Study Illinois, NAFSA, OACAC, CIS)
  • Supervises Global Ambassador Program students.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably with an international emphasis; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of recruitment/admission required, International Recruitment/admission preferred. University admission, marketing experience preferred, extensive cross-cultural experience strongly preferred, most desirably in conjunction with experience living,working, or studying outside of the U.S.
  • Professional Attributes:
    • Self motivation, impeccable organizational skills, attention to detail and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once.
    • Able to adapt to constant requests, inquiries and interpretations with patience, diplomacy and, on occasion, a sense of humor.
    • Excellent written/verbal communication skills; effective listener, proficiency in more than one language preferred.
    • Must be able to establish and maintain working relationships and clearly communicate often with others.
    • Commitment/sensitivity to international/cross-cultural exchange; appreciation for and interest in diverse cultures and customs.
    • Highly effective counseling and recruiting abilities.
    • Work as a part of a team and able to collaborate with colleagues.
    • General knowledge of international educational systems and international admission policies and practices.
  • May be required to work on weekends/evenings/minor holidays; select international travel required. Must possess a valid passport.
