Job description

The Vice President, Government Relations will be responsible for strategically leading Maxar Intelligence’s government affairs efforts, overseeing a team of high-performing professionals. S/he will provide legislative, policy and regulatory advice to leadership and will closely monitor government activity to ensure deep knowledge of the regulatory environment that exists for the business. The incumbent will also serve as a public face for the company in Washington. S/he will liaise with agencies and Congress to drive revenue to the business through contracts and the appropriations process. The incumbent will work closely with business leaders to identify, obtain and support contracts with government clients.
Responsibilities:
  • Define and execute a Government Relations strategy that defends Maxar’s current position on major US government contracts, drives expanding funding lines and allows for expanding share with major customers.
  • Work with senior Maxar colleagues to tie Government Relations strategy and activities to Maxar’s strategic growth objectives.
  • Set a high bar for internal team and external resources and upgrade both as necessary.
  • Lead elevated role for Government Relations within Maxar Intelligence, transforming it into a high-performing asset.
  • Develop trusted relationships with senior Maxar colleagues and the Board.
Requirements:
  • Government affairs experience: 15+ years of progressively responsible experience directing a program of Government Relations, public sector public affairs or as a management-level staff member for an elected official, legislative committee or public affairs office, or similar executive-level experience in Government Relations or public affairs. Significant experience preparing and staffing senior business executives to deliver organizational messages in public and private settings with high-level policymakers. A public policy thought leader with broad credibility on a bipartisan basis.
  • Leadership experience: A track record as an effective and engaging leader who can build, develop, manage and motivate a business-focused and diverse team. Able to establish clear roles, expectations and accountability, ensure proper planning and follow-through, and monitor progress and celebrate success. Experience supporting a public sector business team preferred.
  • Relevant industry experience: Significant experience in understanding and influencing policy matters in the intelligence and defense sectors, particularly in policy areas of greatest importance to Maxar.
  • Business orientation: Track record in driving growth in funding in defense and intelligence markets. Proven ability to successfully drive additional US government funding for relevant defense and intelligence products and services. Knows how to maximize value by focusing attention in the right area and being a thought partner to the commercial leadership of the business on where to focus – both with a view to the short term “quick wins” and the “longer term bets”.
  • Relevant network: Prior senior government experience is preferred. Congressional, agency, and/or White House experience with strong bipartisan House and Senate relationships with leadership and committees of jurisdiction. Preference for relevant connections in the defense, intelligence and appropriations communities. Demonstrated ability to engage, educate, build coalitions, and partner with legislators, government officials, regulators, political leaders, and industry and community groups.
Maxar employees must follow all applicable Maxar policies and COVID-19 requirements as well as those of Maxar customers and third parties. Individual job requirements may vary, and Maxar reserves the right to modify its policies and requirements as it deems appropriate in accordance with applicable law.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, color, religion, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, age, or any other characteristic protected by law.
