VOLUNTEER PROGRAM MANAGER DOWNSTATE
The Volunteer Program Manager the volunteer and internship programs including recruitment and screening, training, program evaluation, assisting in the development of department strategic and annual plans, and building community and political support for Planned Parenthood of Illinois, Planned Parenthood Illinois Action, and associated political action committees. The volunteer and internship programs help increase use of PPIL's services and provides support for programs, in alignment with the PPIL and PPIA missions and the Public Policy and Advocacy Department's strategic plan. The Volunteer Program Manager will assure that PPIL and PPIA are visible and credible within the community, promoting reproductive and sexual health knowledge and advocacy.
Essential functions:
1. Identify, develop, and maintain key relationships with essential community entities such as schools, churches, coalitions, service providers, community-based organizations, health care providers, and managed care organizations.
2. Establish connections with staff in critical roles important for building and growing the volunteer and internship program, especially with the goal of promoting and referring for PPIL services and programs.
3. Provide an active, reliable presence at health fairs, community events and public venues.
4. Make available accurate information and referrals for community members seeking PPIL services and programming.
5. Promote preventative health care and healthy behaviors for adults and teens during these activities.
6. Host engagement activities for days that highlight specific sexual health and advocacy campaigns.
7. Represent PPIL at various speaking engagements including, but not limited to, rallies, workshops, and fundraisers.
8. Work with other agency staff and departments to assess volunteer needs and develop position descriptions to include the development of new programs and create new opportunities relative to volunteerism.
9. Coordinate with Public Policy and Advocacy staff on events, actions, supporter engagement, and outreach to government officials.
10. Support the recruitment and mobilization of volunteers to help assure the success of public outreach, education, patient experience, grassroots organizing and other volunteer activities.
11. Identify and recruit volunteers and interns who are representative of the PPIL patient population and the communities served by PPIL.
12. Facilitate orientations, supervise, and communicate with volunteers for events/programming.
13. Track and evaluate all program outcomes in department databases and complete regular internal and external reports.
14. Minimize agency liability and risk by ensuring that all protocols are followed when working with volunteers and unpaid interns.
15. Train staff working with volunteers and interns. Ensure all state, federal laws and industry standards are met in recruiting/placing volunteers and/or interns, and that all staff supervising interns and/or volunteers understand and comply with all state, federal laws and industry standards when using their services.
16. As necessary, manage and provide volunteer support for Planned Parenthood Illinois Action and its political action committees for their advocacy and electoral work.
17. Assist the Director of Organizing and Advocacy with the development of and annual plans related to the Volunteer Program. Develop and execute campaign specific plans, as needed.
18. Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to remain informed about PPIL protocols, policies, and procedures.
19. Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to PPIL core values of access, activism, care, confidentiality, diversity, excellence, integrity, respect, self-determination, and stewardship; practice these values in relations with internal and external customers.
Other responsibilities:
1. Maintain logs and issue monthly reports on community engagement and outreach activities to inform colleagues, managers, directors and senior leaders across the organization of volunteer and intern program progress.
2. Help inform PPIL on successful and replicable practices as well as barriers to overcome.
3. Other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear and use the phone. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to key in data, handle, or feel and reach. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
The position is on-site and will be in various communities and cities. This position requires traveling statewide, therefore a personal vehicle, a valid Illinois driver's license, and auto insurance in accordance with agency liability standards is required.

Status: Full time. Exempt from the overtime provisions of the wage and salary
regulations.
Qualifications:
Skills and Abilities: Outgoing self-starter, able to work independently to formulate weekly and
monthly community engagement plans. Excellent relationship building skills. Must be energetic, creative, motivated, and able to function productively and effectively with multiple teams and in multiple settings. Strong interpersonal skills required and a willingness to relate to many different types of people, understanding their needs and motivations while keeping the needs of the agency as the highest priority. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule that includes evening and weekend hours. Must be able to travel throughout the assigned area. Bilingual Spanish speaking a plus.
Education and Experience: Experience in conducting outreach in a community health setting and/or an advocacy campaign is preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent community engagement or community health education work experience with demonstrated results. Masters prepared candidates are encouraged to apply. High School Diploma or GED is required.
