Job Title: Volunteer and Development Coordinator
Flexible schedule: 30-35 hours a week (with the potential to become full-time)

ABOUT US
Community Supported Shelters (CSS) is a (501)(c)(3) charitable organization based in Eugene, Oregon. CSS is nationally recognized for confronting the issue of homelessness and is known for its unique Conestoga hut micro-shelters. The huts are built in intentionally designed communities that provide safe, supported shelter for up to two years for people in our community who are unhoused.
We are seeking a qualified and motivated Volunteer and Development Coordinator. This position reports to the Director of Philanthropy and the Development Manager.
THE JOB
The Volunteer and Development Coordinator plays a vital role as a part of Community Supported Shelters’s development team. This role organizes all aspects of volunteering, including recruiting, training new volunteers, and promoting opportunities. This position will also assist with all phases of grant development, including research, completing applications, and managing the grant reporting process. The Volunteer and Development Coordinator works closely with all development, service, and maintenance team members to coordinate volunteers, manage donations within our donor database, and ensure proper donor stewardship to ensure operational success for our mission.

- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, or related field preferred, but not required
- Have three years of job-related experience, such as working in a non-profit, managing volunteer programs, and/or leading teams
- Proficiency with Google Suite (Gmail, GDocs, GSheets, GSlide)
- Experience working with databases, including running reports and updating files
- Strong interpersonal skills with confidence in asking people to contribute time and money, including developing “asks” and engaging with donors, individually or in groups
- At ease with proactively engaging/communicating with donors, sponsors, and volunteers in all styles of communication (email, phone, in-person, text)
- Strong team collaborator with high emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, good judgment, and the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail and follow-through
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to assist with events or development deadlines is required
- Willingness to jump in and help the Team meet deadlines for the Organization’s work, including other special projects/duties as assigned
- Experience working with a wide range of people, social groups, and backgrounds (racial, rural, urban, business, homeowners, donors, and volunteers) for event planning and program coordination
- Commitment to self-care and appropriate professional boundaries

- Assist with researching public and private grant opportunities, writing letters of inquiry and grant proposals, and managing grant reporting.
- Partner with the Director of Philanthropy to maintain a grants calendar with the dates and other information of upcoming grant applications and the master list of grants awards, outcomes, and compliance requirements
- Work with the Director of Philanthropy and the team to develop clear and consistent messaging concerning all fundraising and Development goals.
- Develop and maintain relationships with current and potential donors and solicit individual gifts.
- Collaborate with various program staff to confidently and professionally deliver informative presentations to the public.
- Network with local business owners/managers, other nonprofits, and individuals.
- Organize, coordinate, and manage recruitment and communication with volunteers for events and day-to-day needs.
- Work with social, civic, and local organizations to develop partnerships, where appropriate, to develop and utilize volunteers.
- Develop and implement training programs for all volunteers.
- Maintain updated records for all volunteers.
- Arrange and attend volunteer meetings. Report to staff on volunteer activities as needed.
- Recommend and develop ongoing volunteer utilization.
- Develop and utilize a volunteer management program, including planning, implementation, and recognition.
- This position operates in a professional office environment, off site venues, and outside event areas in various weather conditions. The duties of this job require individuals to be able to work in non-traditional and community-based settings.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and AV equipment.
- Evening, weekend, and some holiday hours may be required occasionally for events.
