Position Title: Warm Springs Youth Development Coordinator

Location: Warm Springs/Central Oregon

Status: Part-time/Non-Exempt (Schedule: Hybrid role with the expectation of being in the office 1-3x per week. 20 hours per week with a variable schedule that may include weekend events)

Reports To: YouthLine Native Program Supervisor

Compensation: $21.50-$24/hr.

We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide and when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.


Warm Springs Youth Development Coordinator Position Overview:
This position will help in the supervision of youth peer intervention specialist volunteers on a YouthLine satellite team, a confidential teen-to-teen phone, text and chat line to help youth deal with bullying, depression, substance abuse or any other issues that can make teen years especially painful. This position will work at Lines for Life’s satellite center in Warm Springs and at the Central Oregon call center location in Bend, Oregon that was opened in July 2019 and will provide crisis intervention support and mentorship to volunteers. This team will also collaborate with the Portland call center to ensure that all contacts are answered with care, compassion, and empathy, all while staying within the scope of the YouthLine program. This position will also collaborate with the Central Oregon YouthLine Coordinator to engage local youth throughout the Warm Springs Reservation and surrounding Central Oregon region in mental health related prevention outreach activities and classroom education.


Warm Springs Youth Development
Coordinator Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the goals and philosophies of Lines for Life.
  • Supervise YouthLine peer intervention specialist volunteers during the Warm Springs satellite office hours of operation. Currently the Bend Call Center is open 4 nights per week between 2:30 pm – 8 pm with a goal is to increase the number of nights per week in the future. The Warm Springs satellite team anticipates being open 1 night per week.
  • Support Warm Springs youth volunteers in youth and work force development activities through their volunteer experience.
  • Assist the Central Oregon Assistant YouthLine Director and Portland YouthLine staff with training Warm Spring youth volunteers with detailed attention to cultural
  • competency, connectedness, recruitment, and retention of youth volunteers.
  • Establish rapport with Warm Springs cohort of YouthLine volunteers and all contacts from the YouthLine call center.
  • Mentor YouthLine peer intervention and outreach volunteer specialists, with a focus on the community of the Warm Springs Nation.
  • Provide sound supervision, support and coaching to volunteers during challenging contacts.
  • Support or answer acute YouthLine emails, texts, or chats with compassion and in accordance with the YouthLine procedures and Lines for Life’s training expectations and scope.
  • Triage calls and collaborate with coworkers to minimize caller wait times.
  • Assist with rescue plans and contacting appropriate emergency services and CPS when needed.
  • Collaborate with the Central Oregon YouthLine Director and Portland YouthLine team on outreach activities and special events for Warm Springs and Central Oregon.
  • Deliver culturally appropriate presentations educating Native American youth and the broader community about (youth) mental health aid, suicide, drug and alcohol, bullying, etc. Assist in the development of materials that connect to, and help Native American youth gain awareness around mental health.
  • Collaborate with the Central Oregon YouthLine Director with volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition for volunteers working on site in Warm Springs.
  • Attend weekly and monthly staff meetings for YouthLine and Warm Springs Programming (remotely and in person) and help coordinate monthly meetings with YouthLine volunteers in Warm Springs and Central Oregon.
  • Become knowledgeable about the demographics, risk factors, and opportunities for the YouthLine to support teens in Warm Springs and Central Oregon.
  • Collaborate with the Central Oregon YouthLine Deputy Director to strengthen relationships between YouthLine and the greater Warm Springs community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Warm Springs Youth Development
Coordinator Knowledge and Skills:

  • Associates Degree in a related field. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of best practices for effective youth engagement, development, and mentoring of indigenous youth
  • Experience working with youth
  • Crisis Intervention training and experience. safeTALK and ASIST preferred.
  • Proficient with data base and MS Office computer environment
  • Strong aptitude for networking with diverse groups of people
  • Strong aptitude for working with teens and young adults
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle stress
  • Must have flexible shift availability to match coverage needs and outreach presentations and events


Warm Springs Youth Development
Coordinator Travel and Schedule Information:

  • This position requires flexibility in schedule to meet outreach needs and requires some work on weekends.
  • Travel is required throughout the Central Oregon region for outreach plus, occasional meetings in Portland.
  • This position will help to build the capacity and diversity of youth volunteers and is intended to help support the operation of the Central Oregon call center. Availability to work some afternoons and evenings is necessary.
