Job Description
American Plastics, a private equity-backed leading injection molded plastics manufacturer specializing in Retail Storage, Janitorial, Food Service and Cleaning products is looking for a Vice President of Engineering. The VP of Engineering is responsible for leading and managing Engineering teams at multiple innovation sites that develop, deliver, and qualify new products. The leader will partner with Supply Chain, Procurement, and their peers in Innovation to design and advance new products that help drive American Plastic’s aggressive growth targets via innovations, improve profitability through qualification of more efficient product, packages and processes while maintaining our high-quality standards, and help deliver our sustainability goals and commitments.
Responsibilities:
•Implement and oversee Engineering team at multiple innovation sites
•Communicates with internal (manufacturing, quality, engineering, sales and marketing) and external partners to coordinate and execute project plans
•This is a customer facing engineering department who is participates in customer presentations on a regular basis
•Responsible to outline and implement 5-year innovation plan
•Oversee intellectual property by working with highly engineered and patented tool technology, IP trademarks, private licensing agreement
•Demonstrate a high level of technical expertise and judgment in evaluating complex issues and developing innovative solutions
•Facilitates resolution of complex technical and operational problems.
•Promotes innovation initiatives for new products and ideas.
•Establish and institute fundamental Engineering specifications for prototype and production Testing
•Develop and standardize Engineering practices to develop and control drawings and 3D models
•Works with Customers to understand their needs and develops internal and external specifications to achieve the requirements.
•Can lead a New Product Development process through all Stages
•Develop and execute on an Engineering Organizational design that can execute the business strategy
•Responsible for developing an annual budget and managing it to achieve budgeted profitability
•Manages a Team of technical experts and workflow to drive innovations and cost savings ideas
•Collaborates with the company’s executive leadership to develop and meet organizational goals while supplying expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and systems.
•Identifies, recommends, and implements new technologies and systems to improve organizational processes and decision-making.
•Reviews and approves technical documentation to verify compliance to technical specifications and standards.
•Establishes and monitors the capital and appropriation expense plan.
•Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level
•Drives excellence in project management and delivers operationally robust solutions (meeting agreed capability and operational targets) to agreed costs and timescales and in conformance with all compliance and safety standards, policies and regulations
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Plastics, Packaging, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering science)
· 7 years' min. experience leading Engineering teams (Innovation/R&D)
· Demonstrated Leadership in cross functional teams involving marketing, sales, purchasing, regulatory, and supply chain in the development of new products.
· The ability to deliver effective recommendations with ambiguity.
· Possess a holistic understanding of manufacturing, plants, and products.
· Challenge team to identify new technical solutions.
· Anticipate new business opportunities or challenges to ensure sustainable competitive advantage.
· Continually integrates evolving business context into functional responsibilities.
· Lateral thinking and problem solving
· General knowledge of the processes within marketing, supply chain, production, quality, and R&D.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Excellent business skills and understanding of the levers of R&I.
· Proficient at MS Office Suite
· Ability to travel as needed.
