Position Overview

A General Manager at Lightspeed Construction Group, LLC is responsible for the general management and broad operations of all construction offices throughout their geographic area.

The General Manager is a thought leader for business area management, ensuring project execution, revenue growth, and expense controls are effectively managed. The General Manager is the primary point of contact for all in-region customer engagement, escalations, and relationship management.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive to achieve and ideally exceed monthly revenue goals for each office while working to diversify and expand the existing customer base.
  • Manage costs and expenses within each construction office to maximize gross and net margin delivery.
  • Use profit and loss statements for each construction office and PowerBI tools to improve monthly trends and make decisions to improve margins.
  • Monitor and drive solutions to achieve customer metrics specific to construction delivery dates, planned maintenance activities, and quality achievement with a keen focus on splicing and activation.
  • Meet regularly with senior customer leadership, regional VPs, and area VPs to discuss customer performance metric achievement and gain alignment for future business opportunities.
  • Serve as an escalation point for customers to answer questions and resolve issues.
  • Review the overall area operational production reports and ensure customer dates are achieved, beating customer SLAs with superior quality.
  • Ensure the team is aligned to enterprise processes for work assignments, tracking work in progress, and moving work quickly through billing through completion of dailies with backup documentation to minimize the number of unbilled days.
  • Ensure the area operations team meets safety, quality, training, production entries, and net income achievement goals.
  • Partner with human resources on culture, workforce planning, organizational design, workforce issues, talent management, learning and development, and employee engagement activities.
  • Strong team leadership, experience with project management best practices, and keen attention to detail are required.
  • Ensure a positive company image by working closely with industry, business, community leaders, and regulatory groups.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures, including financial, safety, and environmental.
  • Develop staff with a focus on leadership development.
  • Regular travel throughout the area of operations to each construction office, with occasional travel outside the operations area, including company headquarters and customer locations.
  • The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, with particular emphasis on customer operational and executive communications.
  • Ability to understand the motivating factors of various constituencies (internal - cross-functional and external – customers/partners) and establish a working cadence that motivates all parties appropriately.

Willingness to travel:

  • 50% (Required)

Preferred Qualifications

Prior executive/senior leadership experience in a telecommunications/cable/MSO or similar environment.

  • Prior direct, hands-on, P&L management responsibilities.
  • Prior experience leading and motivating teams across geographic regions, time zones, and business entities.
  • Prior experience in outside plant construction.
  • Prior experience in project accounting/project financial performance.
  • Strategic thinking with strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively across matrix organizations.
  • Verifiable relationship management skills.
  • Strong initiative, comfortable with ambiguity, and willingness to move outside of one's comfort zone.
  • Have an above-average skill level with the MS Office suite of tools such as Excel, Word, MS Project, and MS Teams.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a Telecom/Cable/MSO role or a similar industry environment.

The Environment

The ideal candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-changing, start-up environment where resources are optimized around producing measurable results. A heavy reliance upon industry partners and contingent resources is a crucial aspect of this role. The role will be predominately office with limited opportunities for hybrid work schedules.

Education

Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or related discipline and equivalent work experience.
