Project Coordinator Position
(Hybrid-Remote, Temporary, Part-time)

POSITION SUMMARY:
Valley Onward is looking to hire a Project Coordinator to assist staff to plan, organize and coordinate the implementation of its various equitable workforce development initiatives. This position is a hybrid-remote (with some in person work required), temporary and part-time. Valley Onward is a 501c3 nonprofit, dedicated to harnessing and cultivating new leaders in California's Central Valley, as well as organizing around issues that impact women and disinvested communities across rural areas in the county.
Valley Onward was born out of the highly successful Building Healthy Communities Initiative (BHC). BHC was a 10 year, $1 billion comprehensive community initiative launched by The California Endowment in 2010 to advance statewide policy, change the narrative, and transform 14 of California’s communities most devastated by health inequities into places where all people have an opportunity to thrive. Valley Onward brings to the table over a decade of experience in community organizing, and empowering traditionally marginalized communities, thereby creating civically engaged grassroots community leaders. We have a passion for building up healthy, vibrant, and engaged citizenry from among the most marginalized communities, in order to create more equitable local environments and lasting positive change.
The Project Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating projects related to equitable workforce development initiatives including but not limited to: ValleyBuild, Valley SEEDS, and North Valley THRIVE initiatives. This position is temporary, part-time (with flexible hours to accommodate other commitments or responsibilities), and hybrid-remote (must work independently and have a computer). The position is 20 hours per week, and may occasionally require in person and/or evening and weekend work for special events. The position pays $21.00 per hour.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Assist staff to plan, organize and coordinate multiple equitable workforce development initiatives.
- Provide support functions as needed such as: Direct communication with various stakeholders, create and print flyers, prepare materials, provide logistical support and planning for events and keep accurate, up to date records.
- Attend meetings and events as required, including both virtual and in person across Merced, Stanislaus and San Joaquin Counties.
- Create and implement social media campaigns in cooperation with staff.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the community and appropriate groups on all relevant issues. Make presentations to community organizations, agencies, and professional meetings and conferences.
- Coordinate, facilitate and run community meetings.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, including labor unions, employers, employees, community organizations, and governmental agencies.
- Research and identify best practices in equitable workforce development, staying up-to-date with emerging trends and innovations.
- Track and evaluate the progress of grant deliverables, measuring their impact and making necessary adjustments based on outcomes.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, summarizing key findings, recommendations, and future directions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will be extremely organized, detail-oriented, be able to take initiative, think creatively, and possess excellent organizational, writing and relationship building skills. Must have a sincere understanding of the organizational mission, the benefits of community involvement, and a desire to increase civic engagement within the community all from an equity perspective. Experience working with or significant exposure to grassroots organizing is a plus.
Additionally, the ability to effectively manage multiple projects with little supervision and work well under tight deadlines will be crucial. Computer skills with proficiency in Google Workspace, Zoom, Monday.com, Canva. Bilingual Spanish speakers preferred, but not mandatory. This is a hybrid-remote position, you must have a computer with a reliable internet connection, and be willing to attend meetings and events in person across Merced, Stanislaus and San Joaquin Counties on occasion.
