Job description

The Site Mitigation and Restoration Program is seeking a Supervising Hazardous Substances Engineer I to lead our Contra Costa and Solano counties unit. This individual will lead Project Managers of various engineering and scientific disciplines. As a Supervising Hazardous Substances Engineer I you will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide technical direction and training to staff who oversee environmental investigations and cleanup activities at properties where hazardous materials, substances or waste were released into the environment
  • Develop and update work plans, schedules, commitments, monitor program activities in conjunction with the Branch Chief to ensure that program performance goals, performance measures, and schedules are met
  • Monitor completion of personnel, general reporting, and tracking documents
  • Represent DTSC before federal, state and local agencies, elected officials, communities, and stakeholders who have an interest in the remediation and reuse of contaminated properties

Desirable Qualifications We Look For:
  • A proven track record of successfully leading and mentoring staff
  • Experience in assessing and tracking staff performance measures
  • Knowledge and Application of Engineering Principles Related to Site Cleanup and RCRA Corrective Action
  • Knowledge or Experience in Site Investigation and Remediation Projects
  • Experience in public outreach
  • It is preferrable that the candidate maintains a California license as a Professional Engineer

Working Conditions
This position is open to candidates who reside anywhere in California. There will be times that require in person training, on-the-job training, site visits, and occasional in-person meetings/public activities. All costs for travel will be at the employee's expense.
