UFG is currently hiring for a Underwriting Specialist to work with our team in Sacramento, CA or Denver, CO. As an Underwriting Specialist you will be responsible for analyzing insurance data, entering statistical information and computing premiums required for all commercial insurance lines of business and assisting the underwriting team in the processing of new application, renewals, endorsements and cancellations. This will all be done using our automated in-house system to generate a legal contract for the insured. This position requires accurate and analytical skills working in a team environment. The primary goal is to produce a quality policy to insureds and agents.
Responsibilities:
- Complete Phase I & II of in-house training and mini seminars
- Enter accurate statistical information into the various computer systems from written or typed correspondence. This will create the legal contract with applicable forms, coverage, and premiums
- Complete initial entry for applications and quotes, update renewals, change requests, cancels and reporting forms
- Assist underwriters with information gathering and written correspondence by obtaining information needed for underwriting decisions
- decide what needs to be referred to the underwriter, per guidelines and authority level by reviewing renewals, quotes, applications, change requests, driver’s lists
- Write or call agents for additional or missing information
- Conduct ImageRight file setup and complete quality control audits
- Distribute incoming tasks multiple times a day and forward to appropriate team member
- Handle overflow phone calls from agents and insured
- Maintain regular communication with Support Staffing Supervisor
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Two or four-year college degree or equivalent work experience preferred
- General insurance designation and/or other applicable property and casualty insurance coursework/designations are a plus
- Institute Insurance Classes: AINS320, AINS21, AINS22, AINS23.
Experience:
- Commercial Lines insurance experience or equivalent rating experience is a plus
- General office and/or finance experience preferred

The salary for the position generally ranges between $21.00 - $24.00/hour. This range is an estimate, based on potential employee qualifications, operational needs and other considerations permitted by law. The range may vary above and below the stated amounts.
