Position Description
Performs advanced, specialized work in the planning, conducting, and/or supervising of original research. Responsible for participating in, planning, scheduling and/or supervising research projects and the interpretation of the results for publication. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants.

Major/Essential Functions
- X-ray diffraction data collection and solution processing analysis (single crystal and powder).
- Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Preparation of data for publication and data archiving.
- Sample handling, archival and disposal of samples.
- Aid in teaching instrumental use for laboratory section of X-ray course and undergraduate laboratory course.
- Training users for routine collection of single crystal and powder diffraction data, as well as structure solution and interpretation.
- Radiation safety committee.
- Monthly billing for the X-ray Diffraction Facility.
Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree (Ph. D.) or specialized academic training beyond the Bachelor's level in a particular field of science or engineering equivalent to a Doctoral degree. Two years research experience; knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources and standards thereof.
Preferred Qualifications
- Mechanical skills, education and training as applicable, monitoring, operation and control skills, complex problem solving, sound judgement, decision making, oral and written communication skills. Manual dexterity, control precision, and arm-hand steadiness.
- Specific knowledge, skills and abilities as related to X-ray Crystallography as well as Chemistry & Biochemistry related research.
- Ph.D. in a related field.
- Prior experience running an X-ray Crystallography Center.
- Experience in co-authoring research manuscripts.
