Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree or higher in business or public administration or transportation, urban or regional planning or design, or a related field and two (2) years professional transportation planning experience.
Licenses and Certificates: Some positions may require a Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state.
General Purpose
Under general supervision, perform professional planning work in support of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan.
Typical Duties
Plan and conduct research and prepare technical planning material related to municipal transportation. Involves: Conduct highly technical research and analysis, evaluate findings, identify significant issues, determine options and develop recommendations on complex projects. Prepare technical material on transportation patterns, travel demands, financial projections, demographics, and air quality analysis. Assign and review work of less knowledgeable staff. Perform capacity analysis, traffic impact analysis, traffic studies, forecasting, modeling, and programming.
Participate in developing and maintaining projects. Involves: Coordinate and participate in analysis of plans and projects. Ensure traffic and transportation projects and programs are consistent with the comprehensive plan and that city transportation needs are effectively satisfied. Meet with private and public sector professionals and representatives and work with other City departments, engineers and consultants involves with transportation planning in addressing citywide transportation planning issues. Provide planning data to the public. Conduct surveys and research property ownership and zoning. Prepare recommendation on transportation projects. Present staff reports and recommendations on traffic issues.
Represent the department and provide technical support, information and guidance on planning issues. Involves: Respond to requests for information on ordinances, codes, policies, plans and procedures. Prepare complex comprehensive documents on data analysis, special reports and recommendations, including reports to federal regulatory agencies. Attend board and committee meetings, City Council, citizen group meetings and other gatherings to represent the department.
