Job description

THIS POSITION IS TERM-LIMITED-TEMPORARY AND ANTICIPATED TO LAST THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2023. THIS POSITION IS BENEFITS-ELIGIBLE.
King County Superior Court is seeking a temporary IT Systems Specialist - Senior to provide support in this important work and to ensure access to justice.
The TLT IT System Specialist-Senior will serve as a technical expert in cybersecurity in our group. Responsibilities include engineering, administering, and securing large complex technology systems which include servers, operating systems, virtualization, cloud, security, databases, and application products. This position will report to the King County Superior Court Director of Information Technology.

Work location: The primary work location for this position is at the King County Courthouse in downtown Seattle. The incumbent may be required to work at other facilities as assigned.
Work schedule and terms: The workweek for this position is normally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Variations in these hours may occur. This at-will Term-Limited-Temporary position is exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is not overtime-eligible.

The following duties are not intended to represent the entire functional capacity of the position at the task level.

Backend infrastructure (30%):

  • Specialize in one or more technical large-scale systems such as Windows servers for large systems, systems software, operating systems, virtualization, Azure Cloud, security, databases, recovery, storage, and applications.
  • Provide escalated/referred problem resolution for internal and external customers which includes escalation or referral of unresolved problems to appropriate resources.
  • Implement, and support IAAS, PAAS, and SAAS solutions in Azure Cloud.
  • Manage SCCM and be responsible for creating images and patching hardware and software.
  • Use Microsoft Azure to deploy highly available, scalable, and secure applications.
  • Provide support for service issues or failures at any time.

Security (70%):

  • Implement, maintain, and monitor cybersecurity systems and protocols to protect our company's data and systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify and remediate security risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Respond to cybersecurity incidents and investigate security breaches or incidents to determine the root cause and prevent future occurrences.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and the industry's best practices.
  • Stay up to date with emerging cybersecurity threats and trends and make recommendations for improvements to our cybersecurity systems and protocols.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to identify and address cybersecurity concerns and risks.
  • Provide cybersecurity training and awareness to employees to promote a security-conscious culture within the organization.
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent degree and three (3) years of related technical experience in IT systems engineering; or five (5) years of systems engineering experience in IT systems. Must have experience in supporting complex technology systems.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, technologies, and best practices

  • Experience with network security, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and vulnerability scanning tools.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks, such as NIST and ISO 27001.
  • Understanding of common security protocols such as SSL/TLS, SSH, and HTTPS.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Security+, CEH, or CISSP, are a plus.
Necessary special requirements: The ability to reliably travel throughout the County is required. Finalists are subject to the Washington State Patrol criminal background check and a reference check. Criminal background records are not automatically disqualifying.
COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement:
King County Superior Court employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are a successful candidate for the position you applied for, the Court will send you a conditional offer letter.
