SummaryJob Description:This position is responsible for the comprehensive management and oversight of all School of Communication (SOC) technology infrastructure, which includes:
- Classroom Technology: Ensuring the complete functionality and up-to-date status of technology in all SOC classrooms and learning spaces across various locations, including McKinley Hall, Media Production Center (labs and editing suites), and the Game Lab.
- Office Technology: Providing support and maintaining all office technology needs throughout SOC.
- Lab Computing: Overseeing the effective operation and maintenance of computer labs within the SOC.
- IT Security Compliance: Maintaining SOC's compliance with mandated IT security protocols established by the university (AU).
- Asset Management: Maintaining a comprehensive and accurate asset registry for all SOC technological equipment.
- Technology Support and Operations: Leads and directs the delivery of technology support services for the school’s computer labs, classrooms, and faculty/staff computers. Ensures comprehensive technical support for all SOC computing facilities, encompassing both Mac and Windows-based systems, including workstations, servers, printers, scanners, and digital storage devices. Leads the facilitation of faculty and staff technology and facility requests, collaborating with the Tech Services Specialist and AU's Facility Operations to ensure efficient resolution. Works with Office of Information Technology (OIT) in supporting campus digital signage in SOC locations. Oversees responses to frontline SOC building operations and facilities requests, guaranteeing closure or appropriate escalation as needed. Functions as the primary point of contact for vendors providing goods & services and contractors performing work within SOC locations. May be delegated as acting Director of Media & Technology in times of absence.
- Strategic Planning: Conducts research and recommends hardware/software upgrades and oversees computer refresh cycles. Collaborates with the Office of Information Technology (OIT) as a strategic technology partner, ensuring SOC technology practices align with OIT standards, including information security measures. Regularly communicates technology needs and potential upgrade opportunities to the Director of Media & Technology. Maintains a comprehensive and up-to-date asset registry, tracking utilization, value, location, service dates, maintenance history, and lifecycle expectations for all SOC technology. Participates as a member of the Technology Dean’s Advisory Committee, which is a liaison between faculty, Media and Technology and the Dean. Continuously expands knowledge by attending meetings and conducting research to stay abreast of contemporary computing practices.
- Personnel Management: Leads, trains, and mentors technology team. Manages employee performance including providing timely and appropriate feedback or coaching and seeks opportunities for employee professional and career development. During peak periods and vacancies, ensures sufficient staffing to meet needs.
- Training/Process Development: Update and develop technology and facilities related procedure documents as necessary. Develops and delivers technology training for SOC faculty, staff, and students in the proper use of hardware and software in the computing lab.

- Full-time/Exempt, 35 hours.
- This is a full campus presence position.
- Some evening or weekend work may be required.
- $27.97 to $38.50 per hour.
- Bachelor's degree.
- 4-6 years of relevant experience.
- Information technology, network operations, and direct customer service.
- Project Management training or experience.
- Understanding of current trends and innovations in technology.
- Windows and Mac operating systems.
- Master's degree.
- Experience in higher education and/or implementing technology services.
