Key service areas include Engineering Design and Documentation; Software Development and Testing; System Integration, Testing and Evaluation; Lab Management and Field Installation; Integrated Logistics Support, Training Development and Delivery, Multimedia Support, and Technical System Support.
Technical Writer Job Description:
Researches and writes technical operations, technical documentation and/or training content supporting specialized equipment, integrated systems and subsystems, IT equipment and software. Edits and updates existing technical content in a fast-paced fluid environment of engineering changes. Creates and delivers high-quality technical documentation and training products supporting the employment and operation of IT equipment and software applications. Responsible for capturing and documenting operational and maintenance related information to support the introduction of new technology.
Technical Writer Required Skills:
● Must have excellent written communications skills to develop reports and plans, and present program status.
● Must have professional technical writing experience, including editing and proofreading.
● Write, rewrite, and/or edit technical documents such as technical procedure manuals, user manuals, programming manuals, service manuals, operational specifications, and related technical publications.
● Communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
● Must be able to identify all required engineering source data and incorporate approved information into support products.
● Acquire subject knowledge through familiarization of the system(s) through hands-on operation and by interviewing product developers and referring to technical specifications, blueprints, and engineering illustrations.
● Develop and present instructional materials including development of instructor led training, course content and identifying student learning objectives.
● Develop and present instructional materials including preparation of course syllabi, lesson plans, testing, development of student manuals and the evaluation and quality assurance of training materials and procedures.
Technical Writer Desired Skills:
● In-depth understanding of the S1000D specification and authoring content in an XML based format.
● Experience developing S1000D IETMs for major programs in a team environment to include data developers, test and integration teams, graphic artists, and QA personnel.
● Experience working with engineering personnel in determination of system capabilities and schedules.
● Experience scheduling and leading technical document verification and validation in the laboratory.
● Familiarity with agile software development processes.
● Experience in planning and conducting training for product end-users and stakeholders.
● Experience developing military operations or maintenance training for complex electronic systems.
Technical Writer Additional Requirements:
● Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education.
● Willingness to work overtime and off shift when dictated to support business needs.
● Candidate must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship and able to obtain and keep a Top-Secret level security clearance.
Job: Full-Time Employee, 40 hours/week
