What to Expect
As a Technical Writer for the design organization, you will be at the forefront of transforming the digital and physical landscape of Tesla's infrastructure/cloud tools across the globe. You will play a critical role in planning, creating and maintaining technical documentation content as an integral part of the engineering experience that sets new standards in the industry. The content may be in the form of written documentation, sample code, UI text, videos, other material and more. You must be exceptional in your ability to explain complex topics in a way that’s easy to understand and useful to your audience. Tesla is looking for an outstanding Technical Writer to be on the design team. You will be responsible for creating compelling content that shows engineers how to leverage Tesla Cloud and data centers around the globe to deliver the highest quality and lowest cost security, availability, capacity and compute power to accelerate Tesla’s ability to solve tough problems, speed and reliability.

You will play a critical role in planning, creating and maintaining technical documentation content as an integral part of the engineering experience that sets new standards in the industry. The content may be in the form of written documentation, sample code, UI text, videos, other material and more. You must be exceptional in your ability to explain complex topics in a way that’s easy to understand and useful to your audience. You will collaborate with engineers, end users and global partners as a key contributor and originator.
- Gather information and requests from, and foster excellent working relationships with, subject matter experts (such as engineers, quality assurance, software developers, product managers and technicians)
- Consider all aspects of a document request. Anticipate potential downstream issues that were not considered by others
- Develop new and/or revise existing content as necessary and on-time, based on the request
- Work closely with team and manager to triage workload and priorities, while keeping track of upcoming delivery dates; work closely with firmware and program management teams to keep track of upcoming changes and release dates
- Ensure content is accurate with attention to detail (for example, validate information accuracy, peer review others’ content and follow review processes)
- Audit existing documentation, create and maintain technical terminology glossaries
- Strategize and implement process improvements, for both documentation processes and peripherally-related processes
- Highly collaborative, and manages tasks and information flow (using software such as JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint and custom databases)
- 5 years technical writing experience (software and/or hardware) with knowledge of relevant content development tools. Must be technically proficient, experience with cloud based tools a plus
- Bachelor’s Degree in Technical Communications, Writing, Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- Strong attention to detail, personal organization, collaboration and time management skills with the ability to communicate effectively with team members
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, is highly adaptable and a proactive self-starter
- Proven ability to work with minimal supervision and proven professional attitude toward work assignments, team members and end users
Compensation and Benefits
Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:
$60,000 - $222,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
