Job description

BACKGROUND

The Small and Medium Enterprise Assistance for Recovery and Transition (SMART) project is a four-year, USAID-funded program implemented by DAI. SMART aims to rapidly recover Palestinian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and put them on a path to revitalization following unprecedented crises e.g., COVID-19. SMART will help SMEs regain productivity, grow, and expand. It will promote economic growth and self-reliance in the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza. This position will be Remote and/or based at the DAI Home Office in Bethesda, Maryland, with Short-Term Technical Assignments (STTA) to our SMART office in Ramallah, Palestine.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Technical Writer will serve as the primary liaison for internal communication among the project's departments and external stakeholders, including USAID, beneficiaries, and the media. They will be responsible for all technical writing deliverables for SMART.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate the transfer of all background documents, graphics, and templates from the Home Office to the SMART Team, drawing on experience from the early stages of SMART program design. Additionally, collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with project goals and contribute to the development of comprehensive documentation protocols.
  • Support the technical team with launching the Private Sector Rapid Recovery Program and the Revitalization Program by accompanying the team on roadshows and collecting information and photos from prospective client firms.
  • Establish workflow processes to ensure efficient processes for outlining, drafting, editing, and submitting technical and reporting deliverables to USAID.
  • Support team compliance with USAID Branding and Marking policy for social media, written materials, publications, etc. Conduct training sessions to educate team members on the USAID Branding and Marking policy. This includes but is not limited to workshops, webinars, or informational sessions to familiarize them with the correct usage of logos, colors, fonts, and other branding elements.
  • Facilitate the launching of online public messaging by aiding in the development of content, layout, and design for the project website, including supporting the development of Power BI dashboards. Additionally, create profiles on various social media platforms to strategically communicate with prospective client firms and the public, maximizing outreach and engagement.
  • Gather information, testimonials, and photos for success stories and upcoming reports. Take an active role in crafting compelling recovery narratives for DAI firms and clients in Gaza following the recent conflict, highlighting their resilience and progress.
  • Aid the technical team in crafting fact sheets, offering thorough assistance to ensure accuracy and clarity in conveying vital information. Additionally, spearhead the coordination of visually appealing materials, like infographics, to simplify complex technical data. Work closely with subject matter experts to gather insights for fact sheet content, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of communication materials.
  • Support the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) and Communication team by reviewing and refining all reports, including weekly, quarterly, and annual reports, as well as any ad hoc reports requested by USAID.
  • Represent the project at events and meetings as directed by the COP.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A university degree in Business, Economics, Communications, or a related field, or a specialized certification.
  • 2-6 years of experience in editing and writing technical or project reports, proposals, or marketing materials.
  • Previous experience in international development, communications, advertising, event planning, media, logistics, and marketing campaign management for local, regional, and international businesses and/or projects.
  • Knowledge of USAID branding and marking requirements.
  • Experience in web design or content development.
  • Experience managing marketing accounts, preferably with USAID projects.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential, with proficiency in Arabic being desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of USAID reporting requirements.

Reporting

The Technical Writer will report directly to the MEL & Communications Director.

Anticipated Start Date: May 2024

Compensation & Benefits

For employees working in the United States, the full-time equivalent annual base salary for this position is expected to be between $72,500 - $92,000.

Salary for part-time employees will be prorated based on actual hours worked. Actual offers will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant education, experience, skills, seniority, performance, and business or organizational needs.

Eligible U.S.-based employees will be able to enroll in medical, dental and vision insurance, plus a 401(k)-retirement plan with a company match. Additionally, employees will be eligible for company-paid annual leave (vacation & holidays), sick leave, and parental leave, as well as short- and long-term disability coverage. Detailed information will be provided at the time a formal offer is extended.

For employees working outside of the United States, compensation and benefits will vary based on location.
