As a Sr. Technology Product Manager - IOT, you will work with a world-class IoT team. Our team has built the largest retail IoT network in the world. We have hundreds of thousands of sensors, modules, and smart equipment out there providing millions of messages a minute to our platform. We then take that data and realize value through automation for things like maintenance and applications for personas ranging from in-store partners to espresso repair technicians.
To be successful, the product manager must have technical acumen and a passion for delighting product users with simple solutions, engaging experiences and tech that stands up to the rigors of our store environments. This position contributes to Starbucks success by contributing to the strategic value, usability, and performance of one or more of our IOT products. The technical product manager is responsible for engaging with business teams to understand customer and stakeholder needs, and translates those into engineering requirements. You will engage other technology teams and vendors to assess technology options to meet business needs, oversee product selection and support successful deployment into stores under the direction of the manager.
You will be looked to for technology guidance and be considered the product expert, so a passion for and knowledge of your retail technology product is critical.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
  • Manages product planning and development through day-to-day collaboration and decision-making with a cross-functional team including architects, developers, designers, and business or subject matter representatives
  • Translates customer experience into technical requirements and product solutions
  • Defines and analyzes metrics that measure and benchmark product success
  • Creates data flows and functional and technical specifications as needed.
  • Responsible for defining the acceptance criteria of a product feature.
  • Works with producers, engineering, and QA to align on feature sizing and delivery planning
  • Helps resolve technical blocking issues and coordinates solutions across multiple technical teams
  • Performs validation of features against customer and business goals and acceptance criteria
  • Drives optimization and process improvements between product, design, and development teams
  • Stays abreast of new technology capabilities and leverages knowledge in contributing to product solutions. Recommends and plans innovative products and features.
  • Works with product managers to scope and prioritize upcoming projects into the roadmap
  • Contributes to a cross-team digital product roadmap
  • Builds effective relationships with key internal engineering, product, and design teams

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Senior-level product management experience producing above-stated deliverables and outcomes
  • IoT/connected devices used in a retail store or food/beverage production setting
  • Technology-specific experience, in remote device management and support, plus knowledge of operational use in stores
  • Technical literacy in every layer of the OSI model
  • Hands-on experience in writing use cases, and user stories, refining product backlogs, and coordinating/prioritizing conflicting requirements
  • Ability to understand complex business and technical issues
  • Ability to plan for and review technical programming specifications
  • Ability to apply knowledge of multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities
  • Ability to tell the story of your product vision, strategy, and roadmap
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Consistently uses communication skills to influence outcomes
  • Ability to influence others without authority to get things done in a timely fashion
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
  • 7+ years of industry experience in a technology environment with a record of successfully delivering and managing complex products
  • Experience providing services in a retail or edge-computing environment
  • Recent experience in defining and/or building applications for web and/or mobile
  • Prior programming or engineering experience a plus
