PROJECT SUMMARY
Analyzing Cell Biology at Scale
The Cheeseman lab is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual with boundless curiosity who is interested in conducting research to probe the inner workings of human cells. The work in the Cheeseman lab is focused on understanding core cell biological questions, including applying fluorescence microscopy and functional genetic strategies to define the requirements for cell division and other cellular processes. Our recent work conducted pooled cell biological profiling using Cas9-based gene targeting for the ~5,000 essential genes in human cells acquiring microscopy-based images for millions of cells. We are recruiting a researcher to contribute to these large scale cell biology efforts to extend this approach to diverse cell biological markers, cell lines, and different cell states unlocking fundamental new biological discoveries. This collaborative project and our dynamic environment provide strong opportunities for training, growth, and professional development.
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
Designs and performs bench level experiments and independent research projects (related to large scale cell biology, optical pooled screening, and targeted cell biological experimentation) to support scientific research objectives of a lab or group. Analyzes experimental data, addresses methodological problems in experimental protocols and results, reports data to supervisor, and presents results. Conducts laboratory tasks and organization to ensure the smooth operation of the group. Uses discretion in prioritizing and organizing workflow and in optimizing methodologies and results. Contributes to lab organization and operation.
