Job Overview

The SVP, Enterprise Data and Analytics Technology shapes and implements the company’s data and analytics vision, collaborating closely with C-Suite Leadership and senior executives from both business and Technology sectors. The focus is on fostering a data-driven culture throughout the organization where data is viewed as a strategic asset that generates business value. This leader actively leads, defines, and deploys top-tier data science and advanced analytics capabilities in support of Macy’s business ambitions. They design and develop supporting technologies for scalability and reusability.

This leader oversees a diverse team of experts, including data scientists, data engineers, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning specialists, business analysts, and data governance professionals. They leverage the unique strengths of each team member to establish standards for governance, engineering, architecture, AI, reporting, and analytics across Macy’s Inc. Having a deep understanding of Macy’s business processes and data utilization, this leader introduces modern data engineering and analytics techniques, emphasizing Data Ops & MLOps. They stay actively engaged in emerging data-related trends within the tech community. Additionally, they manage and develop their team, attracting top talent. With a proven track record, they develop and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with the company’s goals and objectives, gaining support across all organizational levels.

The Enterprise Data and Analytics Technology Leader at Macy’s Inc. reports to the Chief Information Officer. The position is based in Atlanta, GA.

What you will do:

  • Develop and drive the vision for data, analytics, and Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning within Macy’s. Serve as a thought partner for the business and enable the use of data as a strategic asset to unlock business ambitions and value.
  • Define enterprise roadmap for managing data as an asset and a utility, unified data formats, and strategy to continuously streamline data landscape with end users in mind.
  • Lead advanced analytics, business intelligence (BI), and reporting efforts to enable data-driven business decision making and process automation.
  • Collaborate with key business leaders to understand, prioritize, and deliver the data platforms and tools they need based on key use cases in digital, commercial, operations, people, and finance.
  • Define, manage, and advance enterprise information management principles, policies, and programs for stewardship, advocacy, and custodianship of data and analytics, in concert with legal, information security, and corporate risk and compliance offices.
  • Build strong relationships, credibility, and trust with C-Suite and key business stakeholders to ultimately strengthen the data team’s credibility within the organization.
  • Operate as a change agent to accelerate the journey of being a best-in-class data-driven organization.
  • Act as a steward of data literacy throughout the organization.
  • Organize and chair a Data & Analytics Data Governance organization, ultimately helping to establish and manage the governance of data and algorithms used for analysis, analytical applications, and automated decision making.
  • Define and deploy data science and analytics best practices, including guidelines for tailoring analytics methodologies to specific business needs.
  • Foster the creation of a data-driven culture and related competencies and data literacy across the enterprise with a focus on promoting data self-service.
  • Develop and maintain controls on data quality, interoperability, and data sources to effectively manage the corporate risk associated with the use of data and analytics.
  • Institute processes and data governance to ensure data pulled from various sources meets quality standards, is curated, and enhanced for analytical use, driving towards a "single source of truth".
  • Oversee development and management of data infrastructure (e.g., data lake) for improved data accessibility.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and practices including but not limited to AI, Machine Learning,
  • Cloud, Advanced Analytics, and Business Intelligence Software.
  • Foster a community of practice for all data, Analytics and Technology teams and colleagues across the enterprise as well as provide direct analytical support where needed.
  • Lead, build and develop a motivated data engineering chapter that works closely with Platform development teams and leverages next gen practices (e.g., MLOps, Data Ops).
  • Build a bench of technical data talent that can help improve data literacy across the organization through the support and education of end-users.

Who you are:

Years Of Experience (Minimum or preferred Years of Experience)

Minimum 15+

Experience in data with growing complexity and impact within data inclusive of data engineering, data

governance, data science, AI/ML, and analytics

Minimum 10+

Years of leadership with progressively increased responsibility leading large scale, complex, and matrixed organizations

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of the overall data ecosystem for a retail company, including key systems and business processes that create data, and how the data can be leveraged to extract real business value.
  • Strong understanding of next gen data practices (e.g., MLOps, Data Ops, Data Science) that can be applied to specific retail use cases.
  • Demonstrated track record of driving large-scale, cross-functional change programs and transformation initiatives through developing, articulating, and driving a strategy of where and how data & analytics can create value and improve business performance, with proven results.
  • Analytics expert with experience in delivering data science initiatives, accelerating analytics-driven outcomes, and transforming data into business value in the retail/consumer context.
  • Fluent in data technologies such as data governance tooling, data platform technologies, and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Knowledge leading the ideation & design of campaigns across the analytics use cases and manages the OKRs for end-to-end delivery.
  • Experience managing a large portfolio of programs/projects and associated ongoing prioritization and resource allocation to ensure that the crucial business initiatives are delivered.
  • Proven experience leading large data organizations with a customer-first mindset, seeking to reimagine customer/ end-user experience.
  • Experience building a culture around data sharing, governance and hygiene while bringing expertise and sensitivity to data security, risk and compliance.

  • Communicates with clarity, conviction, and confidence across all levels, both up and down the organization. Able to understand and work in a large scale, complex matrix environment.
  • Act as the chief advocate/evangelist of data-based decision making.; Handles executive audiences well. Skilled at defining, motivating, and driving change at executive levels and across the broader community of stakeholders.
  • Expert written communication skills, self-directed with preparation of board ready document and presentation development.
  • Experience coordinating across multiple senior-level functional leaders to define and deliver a data strategy & roadmap.
  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately influence the thinking of others, and effectively lead and evolve team to support advancing future business initiatives.

  • Analytics Proficiency: Mastery in steering data science initiatives, expediting analytics-driven outcomes, and seamlessly translating data into tangible business value within the dynamic retail/consumer context.
  • Technical Acumen: Fluent in cutting-edge data technologies, adept with data governance tools, well versed in data platform technologies, and well-grounded in enterprise architecture principles.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills, distinguished by the ability to convey complex concepts clearly and persuasively across all organizational tiers, particularly with executive stakeholders.
  • Strategic Planning: Seasoned in leading the conceptualization and execution of comprehensive campaigns across diverse analytics use cases, adept at managing Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for end-to-end delivery.
  • Project Leadership: Proficient in orchestrating a substantial portfolio of programs/projects, ensuring meticulous prioritization and resource allocation to deliver pivotal business initiatives.
  • User Adoption Expertise: Skilled in driving widespread user adoption of advanced analytical tools and methodologies, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization.
