Position Summary:
This position is a multi-functioning position and includes coordinating surgeries for our Breast/Gynecology Surgeons based on their requests and guidelines. Maintaining surgery schedule, obtaining prior authorizations for all surgeries, communicating with physicians and support staff regarding schedule changes and ensuring necessary paperwork is completed and send to the appropriate facility in a timely manner. Performs job duties and responsibilities in compliance with company policies and procedures. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Schedules and coordinates surgical procedures in-house and at out-patient facilities.
- Obtains authorization for procedures or surgeries both in-house and out-patient facilities.
- Informs appropriate staff when surgery is authorized and scheduled
- Documents all appropriate information in the patient chart via computer once surgery scheduling is complete.
- Communicates promptly with physicians regarding any changes to surgery schedule or unauthorized procedures.
- Communicates promptly with supervisor regarding periodic work flow overload.
- Maintains a professional, team oriented, positive attitude on a daily basis.
- Must be willing to travel between offices.
- Must be able to type and work on a computer.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor, administrator, or physicians.
Minimum Qualifications
- Excellent telephone and written communication skills as well as listening skills and ability to demonstrate tact and patience with all callers.
- Ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to analyze and solve more complex problems that may require research and creative solutions and make sound decisions with limited supervision.
- High level of skill in documenting data while talking with callers.
- Maintains highest standards of confidentiality, display professional conduct.
- Demonstrate a process improvement mindset and self-driven approach with a can-do attitude with both internal and external customers.
- Ability to use office equipment, computer.
Education and/or Experience:
- 1-2 years’ experience surgery scheduling and obtaining prior insurance authorization required.
- Experience working with Gynecology/Breast Surgeons preferred but not required.
