Position Summary
The Supplier Performance Manager (SPM) is in charge of achieving Class A operational performances (On Time Delivery and Non-conformity Delivery) for Industrial regional suppliers.
Deploys the Supplier Industrial/Engineering/ Service Performance Management methodology adapted to Thales business requirements and Industrial/Service/ Engineering suppliers. In the region, SPM II contributes to the setting up of Suppliers Performance Management requirements in close collaboration with Procurement, Industry and Operations departments.
Ensures the management of the SPM activities in GBUs or Procurement and as such acts as a coach to other SPM
SPM is acting as a Thales representative in front of the suppliers and as such is directly in charge of communicating with the supplier's management. In addition, they need to communicate easily with all managers involved in the SIPM activities from Global Category Team Managers, SPM Directors, Head of operation, Head of regional procurement and the central Group SPM organization.
SPM needs to address "classic” disciplines of maturity and efficiency in Operation.
In addition, SPM has to be keen on Industry standard including the question of extended supply chain in the meaning of the digital continuity and the best value added for all the parties.
At the same level of complexity of an Industrial Manager or Supply Chain Manager in an international environment.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Ensures the on-going monitoring of Industrial performances, and sets up the escalation process to provide active support to GBUs
Issues the Supplier Industrial Scorecards
Create conditions of success to improve the business development with the selected suppliers
Implement the SPM methodology able to measure and improve continuously operational performances in conjunction with GBUs needs and in close collaboration with Global procurement, Industry, Operations and central SPM.
Evaluates and communicates officially with the GCM the operational performances to the strategic suppliers
Defines and implements training programs for the community
Puts in place advanced event mapping and signal processing techniques in order to anticipate risks and build mitigation plan
Contributes to the development of SPM tools with Procurement Tools and Processes and SPM central function
Contributes to the structural alignment of Supplier Development for Industry based to good knowledge of supply base and expertise
Coach the supplier organization on the implementation of best in class supply chain & quality processes
Drive End to End (from NPI to production) Supplier Performance (supply chain & quality) to all Thales entities, worldwide
Implement operational recovery, performance and development actions (supply chain & quality) at supplier production sites (following supply chain & quality toolbox): define and follow up detailed improvement actions
Launch and drive, when needed, Lean and 6 Sigma projects at supplier production site
Act as a single point of contact between Thales entities and supplier for managing operational issues
Provide consolidated future Thales demand (mid/long term) to supplier and ensure supplier will meet requested needs, escalate if necessary in due time
Ensure improvements of internal inefficiencies affecting Supplier Performance (drawings, specifications, data pack…) - in coordination with local SPM at worldwide level.
Provide a coordinated vision on New Product Introduction to suppliers; anticipate Thales technological roadmaps that could affect future supplier's performance
Technical culture sufficient to understand the products and their main characteristics and applications
Technological: manufacturing processes (electronics, mechanics, electro technique, optics, microwaves, etc.) with a focus on electronics or mechanics at a minimum
Notions of Industry Standard including the question of extended supply chain in the meaning of the digital continuity and the best value added for all the parties
Good notion of business organizations and systemic analysis
Notion of Sales and Operation Planning (S&OP), MRP II (Manufacturing Resources Planning), Industrial Supply Chain Management
Be the key point of contact in case of qualifications needs (new sites, engineering changes…); trigger additional resources when needed
Operational Experience
Value stream mapping at manufacturing sites
Knowledge of advanced methodologies (lean, six sigma, quality…) to develop Supplier Performance
Able to define and drive detailed operational improvements at industrial suppliers
Understanding of product development processes
Prioritization of development actions
Alignment of internal customers and stakeholders
Operational skills
Expert level in supply chain and quality management, Project Management, Manufacturing, advanced level in Lean and quality tools deployment
Implementation of improvement plans through Value Stream Mapping
APQP, 6 Sigma
New product development, production transfers
Operations management, capacity assessments, industrial maturity assessment and development
SPM level Training and Certification
Experience in leading assessment or audits (eg. IPCA)
Soft Skills
Advanced communication and leadership
Able to address issues at executive level as well as shop floor
Strong negotiation skills
Result oriented, assertiveness and diplomacy
Minimum Qualifications
8-10 years of operational position industry experience for complex products (market: high Mix low volume preferable): SPM; Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum 6-8+ years of relevant experience or Master’s degree in a related field with 6+ years of relevant experience
Certification in Lean, Six-Sigma Green Belt
Preferred Qualifications
Certification in Lean Master, Six-Sigma Black Belt
Experience working with ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards and principles
Special Position Requirements
Extensive business travel is required (anticipated primarily within NORAM 50-70% annually
Travel may include sites like Thales Defense and Security Site like AMS facilities
