ROLE SUMMARY
In this role, the candidate will be responsible for supervising the Product Engineering team for the Cookeville, TN site. The Product Engineering team will have from 5-10 product and lab engineers that are responsible for the design, test, and documentation of existing and new valve and actuation products. The product engineers are the technical authority for their products lines, providing support to other functions and customers as needed, to resolve technical problems and questions. The supervisor will set priorities, provide instruction and feedback to the Product Engineering team, coordinate with other functions and global site engineering teams to ensure that Product Engineering tasks are completely timely and accurately. In addition, the supervisor will oversee all lab equipment, functions and personnel to complete product testing as needed.
Ideal candidate would be in valve or similar industry. Relocation will be considered.
This is an onsite role. Hours are 7 AM - 4 PM.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead Product Engineering team to
- Coordinate and manage new product design and design improvement initiatives to complete on budget and schedule.
- Ensure engineering design and standards documentation is complete, accurate, and sufficient in support of global manufacturing, supply chain, and quality assurance activities.
- Provide timely evaluation and disposition of product returns and first piece inspection reports for new components/vendors.
- Provide technical and customer service support for new customer inquiries, application and troubleshooting assistance, and evaluations of returned goods.
- Coordinate with other functions and global site engineering teams to prioritize resource demands for Product Engineering work.
- Implement engineering best practices and Flowserve standards.
- Maintain up-to-date awareness of relevant national, international and industry standards.
- Set individual team member goals and priorities to meet overall team goals and timelines and provide end-of-year performance reviews.
- Create individual development plans for each team member and mentor / coach where needed.
- Manage lab resources and equipment to complete engineering and production testing needs, develop special testing procedures and fixturing as required, drive a safety awareness across the team.
- Maintain and update as required the engineering operating processes and procedures relating to product design and development.
- Ensure a safe, secure, and healthy work environment.
- 10-15% Travel, including international.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree.
- Proven track record for taking ownership of issues and driving to a resolution.
- Must have sense of urgency to plan and execute tasks to meet schedule milestones.
- Flexibility, able to work in areas that are not clearly defined; ability to make decisions with incomplete information.
- Ability to manage projects, coordinating with engineering team and across multiple functions.
- Must have a collaborative style that encourages the flow of communication, removes obstacles, and promotes problem solving and teamwork.
- Setting expectations, evaluating progress, and providing constructive feedback and performance review.
- Effective oral and written communications skills.
- Ability to identify root causes and to develop / implement improvement initiatives.
- Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
- 10+ years' experience in valve design.
- Experience in coaching and mentoring engineers or other technical roles.
- Knowledge of Solidworks or other 3D CAD tools, Windchill or equivalent PDM, and Oracle or other MRP system.
- Experience with castings, forgings, and machined components.
- Knowledge of various materials utilized in industrial products, such as steel alloys and non-metallic sealing elements.
- Experience in Continuous Improvement practices, Green Belt certification or similar training.
