Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Designs products and the processes to manufacture them at scale

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Utilizes Computer Aided Design software to build digital models of product concepts
  • Sources materials necessary to build a prototype and then scale prototype in a cost-effective manner
  • Collaborates with cross functional Product Development team to turn concepts into reality
  • Ensures product design meets any and all product design requirements and meets design for manufacturing criteria
  • Create and execute product component and system test plans, analyze results, and draft reports
  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts projects from inception to completion
  • Creates and manages schedules, budgets, cost tracking, resource management, and status reports
  • Develops and maintains scope of work
  • Performs all tasks with minimal supervision

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar

EXPERIENCE

  • Seven years of experience in Product Development and design for manufacturing; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in project management from creation to completion
  • Manufacturing process development experience preferred


SKILLS and QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient in CAD/CAM software (Solidworks or Autodesk Inventor preferred)
  • Understanding of and ability to read basic electrical schematics
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Excellent decision making and analytical skills
  • Ability to develop and manage scope, budget, and schedule
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and drive clarity
  • Ability to work with multiple disciplines and across multi-functional projects
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and conflicting stakeholder interests
  • Knowledge of project activities such as planning, scheduling, budgeting, design, analysis, test & evaluation, prototype building, and customer contracts
  • Ability to prioritize time and tasks in a fast paced, ever changing environment
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, developing robust processes, and eliminating root cause errors
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization from the shop floor to the executive stakeholders
  • Desire for continuous self-improvement and the ability to learn new things
  • Monitoring compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; strong active listening ability
  • Strong ability to translate communicated expectations to deliverables
  • Strong ability in taking notes during meetings, understand what is discussed, what decisions were made, and drive action items
  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. Government Security Clearance
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical team members
  • Eligible to possess explosives under the Safe Explosives Act of 2003 (as amended) as required by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF)
  • Willing to work in an environment that requires a “Safety First” attitude. Must obey all Safety, Health & Environmental rules/regulations prescribed by regulatory agencies that are incorporated into company policy
  • Ability to read and follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to handle energetic and non-energetic material
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
