We are immediately seeking individuals for the Community Liaison (AR) position who have experience in youth exchange and/or are willing to be trained. We work with inbound, high-school aged students.

What does the Area Representative do?

  • Placement: Recruit and vet potential host families in the Charlotte area to ensure they meet the requirements to host. Help host families complete the online hosting application and select the exchange student for their family.
  • Supervision: Provide students and host families with the support and guidance necessary during their exchange experience through regular contact, ultimately ensuring the safety and well-being of the exchange student(s).

Basic requirements to apply:

  • age 25 or older
  • authorized to work in the USA
  • submit and pass a criminal background check
  • have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • own a computer/tablet with Wi-Fi connectivity and have basic computer skills

  • Enjoy working with youth between 15 and 18 years of age
  • Time to promote the hosting opportunity in the local area a few hours a month

  • Strong social skills and the ability to problem-solve
  • Experience in conflict resolution and/or willingness to learn

Compensation & Travel Opportunities:

This is considered a flexible part-time work-from-home position and is supplemental commission income. On average, Area Representatives who place 8 to 30 (academic year) students, earnings can range between $9,000-$33,000 annually in compensation from placement fees, supervision fees, and bonuses.

Be sure to join us on our next exciting adventure – Lisbon, Portugal - November 2024.

Place eight (8) students to earn your trip to our Celebration of Success event in Portugal. Every eight students placed thereafter qualify you to bring a guest.
(16 students = you +1) (24 students = you + 2) and so on. You can even earn 1 trip and then purchase addtional trips for friends/family; the more the merrier!

We are dedicated to promoting a more peaceful world by advancing international awareness and understanding through Student Exchange. Our students come to us from Europe, Asia, and South America. This position is also a great way to build connections in your local community which can create future networking opportunities for all parties involved.

Primary Responsibilities:

a. Recruit and vet host families in your area

b. Match students with host families

c. Build and maintain relationships with SMG partner schools in your local area

d. Provide support and guidance to students and host families throughout the experience

e. Serve as a Liaison between local students, families, schools, and our professional support staff

Training and Support:

SMG’s Regional Director will provide comprehensive Training for Area Representatives to prepare them for all aspects of the position. The training includes but is not limited to placements, supervision and support, conflict mediation and resolution, sales/outreach, and intercultural training. Regional Staff members work directly with Area Representatives to guide them through initial training modules and provide additional support and training throughout the year.

Hours/ Compensation:

This position is notsalaried; Area Representatives can receive financial compensation in the form of placement & supervision stipends, bonuses, and all-inclusive travel incentives. As an Area Representative for SMG, you manage your own schedule and have flexible hours; many of our current ARs have full-time jobs, are stay-at-home moms and dads, or are retired.

NOTE: This is a contract position. Payment is only issued upon completion of placement/supervision reports.
