Job Description

The State Preschool Teacher role, under the guidance of the Site Supervisor, is a full-time, year-round opportunity responsible for executing and supervising all aspects of high-quality education within the California State Preschool Program (CSPP) or the General Childcare and Development (CCTR) child development program.

Duties entail Designing appropriate educational programs for children, fostering positive interactions with children and families, collaborating effectively with administration and staff, and ensuring compliance with state, licensing, and federal regulations.

Compensation:

$17 - $20 hourly

Responsibilities:

Environment

  • Create and maintain a well-organized environment that includes all applicable interest areas and supports and encourages acceptance and respect of gender, culture, language, ethnicity, and family composition
  • Provide and rotate regularly materials and equipment
  • Provide an outdoor curriculum that enhances children’s physical and social development by bringing indoor components outside
  • Utilize the Environmental Rating Scale instrument to measure quality in the classrooms

Curriculum and Assessments

  • Plan and implement quality lesson plans utilizing The Creative Curriculum
  • Observe and document children’s growth and development in the Child Plus DRDP

Application

  • Assess each child using the Desired Results Developmental Profile 2015 (DRDP 15)
  • Prepare individualized education plans specifying developmental goals and activities for each child

Developmental Screenings

  • Work with parents to complete the age-appropriate ASQ-3 and make referrals for further assessments when scores indicate a possible concern

Social and Emotional Growth

  • Implement the Teaching Pyramid approach that provides a systematic framework promoting social and emotional development, providing support for children’s appropriate behavior, preventing challenging behavior, and addressing problematic behavior
  • Promote agency-wide expectations for behavior
  • We are Safe - We are Friendly - We are Respectful
  • Establish a consistent daily schedule, predictable routines, and organized transitions

Supervision, Nutrition, and Safety

  • Provide for the safety, health, and nutrition of all children
  • Supervise children at all times to ensure a safe environment according to Title 5

Regulations (Preschool 1:8, Toddlers 1:4, Infants 1:3)

  • Develop and implement care and supervision plans that are specific to classroom and playground and include details of teaching staff responsibilities and zoning maps
  • Provide food service support for all snacks and meals according to CACFP policies
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of meal counts
  • Implement health practices within the classroom using universal health precautions including handwashing, glove-wearing, diaper changing, and dispensing of authorized medications
  • Assess the indoor and outdoor environment and complete the Daily 7 if assigned an opening teacher position
  • Implement the center’s plan for emergencies and conduct monthly drills

Professional Development

  • Attend agency professional development training and other professional growth opportunities including sponsored training, conferences, Quorum online training, Monarchlink online training, and Teaching Strategies online training
  • A minimum of twenty hours per year is required

Collaboration, Family Engagement, and Teamwork

  • Participate in daily positive communication with families
  • Meet with families as requested including informally and formally during parent conferences
  • Attend and participate in Child Success Team meetings
  • Support Site Supervisor in promoting center and agency meetings and events
  • Attend monthly staff meetings
  • Work with the teaching team to ensure all classroom expectations are met
  • Support Enrollment staff in collecting documentation as needed
  • Participate in monthly classroom case conferences
  • Support implementation of the Raising a Reader program

Professionalism

  • Represent the agency’s mission and values
  • Promote and maintain a sense of teamwork within assigned classroom, center, and agency
  • See oneself as a professional and one’s work as a professional practice
  • Assume responsibility for continued professional growth and maintain current child development permit
  • Keep all required records current and accurate (meal counts, time sheets, attendance records, etc.)
  • Demonstrate efficient use of time and materials
  • Maintain excellent work habits (attendance, punctuality, time management, teamwork, etc.)
  • Keep confidentiality at all times
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications for Teacher:

  • Child Development Teacher Permit minimum
  • AA degree or higher in Child Development or related field preferred
  • Three infant/toddler units are required if working with children from birth to three years of age
  • Two years of relevant experience teaching/working with children, 0-5, and their families

  • Ability to communicate with families and coworkers with compassion and free from judgment
  • Read, understand, interpret, and apply policies, rules, and regulations
  • Express oneself clearly and concisely both orally and in writing

Essential Physical Functions (including classroom and outdoor environments)

  • Physically capable of responding in a timely manner to the children’s needs, emergencies, and conflicts that may occur within a childCare Center environment
  • Able to lift and carry at least 30 lbs. (from floor to waist) in a repetitive manner
  • Physically capable of assisting children when needed to ensure their safety in the play area
  • Physically able to crouch, squat, sit, and stand on the floor (up to 30 minutes), to relate to the children in their environment
  • Able to handle commotion, high noise levels, and pressures of the Center on a daily basis
  • Perform other duties as assigned
